I didn't mention a word about peak power, i was talking about the curve itself.

I've read the shootout numerous times - that's how I decided on what i have instead of the Drummer.

This discussion is not really about Odie vs. Kevin, it's about doing a mod yourself vs. buying a product that's been tested and proven.

I think bringing the Special Ops into it is a totally different discussion, one that I'm staying the hell out of.

Thanks Ustorque...I think

Spatten1 - you obviously need to go back through and real all of my post...

I will publish the numbers when I get a dyno run at a dealer latter this summer - I don't know when they are doing it.

Here is another question...what is increasing the power? The new modified muffler? All by itself? I don't think so...what else goes into this mod??? An upgraded ECM, modified fuel maps, a different air filter, an opened up air box...the power doesn't come from simply swapping out the muffler...other things need to be done as well.

Yes you can get power from just swapping out the muffler. It changes the effective length and volume of the overall exhaust system. Look at the exhaust shootout on American Sport Bike. They test all the pipes with the same intakes, and show dyno runs with the stock map, the race map, and a pipe optimized map. With the stock map, and the same intake, the drummer shows a 9hp gain over the stock muffler on an xb9, and a slight gain of torque on the xb12. All just from swapping out the muffler...

Now I'll probably make my own pipe just to see what I can do, having done tuned exhausts in the past for other vehicles, and I have no intentions of purchasing a drummer, but you're talking nonsense!

I'm pretty sure that all of the bikes in the shootout were tested an open airbox and a remapped ECM, not just a swapped can. I can guarantee you that an XB12 with no more than a Micron slapped onto it will run like crap. It'll knock like hell when you open it up and pop under any decel load. It doesn't have to have an open A/B, but the fueling is a MUST. We're still battling JP's map, but delayed as he's away on business.

And if you need any input on the DIY, we can hook you up! I've got a very accurate CAD template for the back and front plates... just ask.

This discussion is not really about Odie vs. Kevin, it's about doing a mod yourself vs. buying a product that's been tested and proven.

This discussion was said by others (I can't remember who) to be about how no one else could possibly make the kind of power Kevin does by modifying a stock can due to all of his research and testing.

My reference to Odie was merely to prove that one could, and do better to boot. Nothing more. My posts weren't meant to bad mouth either - Personally I have the Odie pipe and love it, and he's been great for customer support questions, even a year after buying it from him. I would assume no less from Kevin, and a quality product to go with it - with so many loyal followers, there has to be a reason for it.

Like I said, by reading this thread, a newcomer would be led to believe that a Drummer produces mythical power for a Buell, and that's just not true. It's a good pipe, with a good finish and a good curve, but the cat's ass it is not.

It's surely not a bad choice for anyone that wants one, but that goes for just about any other pipe on the market depending on what you're looking for.
