i run into the store to gab a pack of smokes and a drink and come out to find a guy and girl next to my bike and walked in mid conversation to "it's a cute little bike this would be good for you to learn on" he said to his wife. he asked if it was mine and again told me how cute it was and i just shook my head and laughed, saving any comment i had about the honda shadow 750 i only assumed was his because of the cute fringy chaps he was wearing. he asked what was so funny and i again bit my tongue as i lit my smoke. he looked irritated and walked away saddled up on his fine piece of chromed out plastic and rode off but he decided to flip me off as he tried to tear away........aaaahhh ignorance is bliss!

I had a guy call my bike cute the other day too. This threw me off guard since I just had two different people pull up to me at stoplights asking what kind of bike it was and telling me how freaking bad ass it is. He had an early 2000s gsxr with cracked carbon fiber fenders, lowered, stretched swing arm, that he said he just bought. I should have told him that his gold tooth was cute!!! He was standing outside the local yamaha/suzuki/honda dealership all by himself when I got there and was still out there when I left. I guess he was just hanging out.

Haaa! Thats freakin funny. "Cute", has not been a term used for my bike...yet, but I've heard a few wacky things like "sweet bike, thats gotta be at least what? 500 cc's?" or "I like how its so short in length and small, would be cool if it cool stay that small and be as fast as a ninja or something". I just say, "yep that'd be cool".
But most of all, I love the look when I say, "1200...and 3" Then I watch as they pick their eyeballs up from the ground...for those who even know what 1203 means. Some people I tell ya..

I've heard "cute" only twice until I fired it up. All sense of "cute" is thrown out the window when they hear it!! LOLOL

I have also had the "what size, 250 or 500" and again, I say 984 or 1203, depending on which I am riding that day, and then fire it up and they look quite frightened. Hilarious stuff. : ): )

Now, in traffic at the stops I only hear comments like "badass" and "awesome".

I was riding with a group of harley guys one day and before we started they all had there chests out and bragging about there bikes. After we started riding I had three differn't guys say that the bike is badass or damn it looks better in real life. Then we pulled in a parking lot and as we passed by a couple teenagers they almost had a heart attack as I passed mind you I was at the back of the pack. so I got to see there reaction to the other bikes.

I just love these bikes looks, handling, and people that choose these great machines.

I've never gotten "cute". Mostly cause it's a giant Uly with a big bastard riding it looking down into SUVs.

They just run away when Chad comes through. Most are shocked to see Big Foot wearing a helmet and day glow 'stitch straddling a school bus. : D

Ustorque, thanks I haven't laughed that hard in a while. I also have gotten the "cute" bike stuff mostly from friends ragging though now every time I hear I will fall on the ground laughing. : )

Noone ever mistakes my bike for "cute" Filthy, dirty, muddy, and maybe crazy comes to the conversation, but never cute.

pic with-held until I get some really chunky thick ploppy mud on there to show off.

When in discussions about bikes I always ask the same thing - isn't light and quick the idea. If I want slow, loud and chrome I'll get a 1973 Cadillac or its motorcycle functional equivalent an HD or custom pig. Please let me pay 3x what my bike cost so I can slowly navigate corners or just load up my carb at a stoplight. While I'm at it I'll go for the full image look chaps, leather bandana etc. Every weekend on Rte 66 here in CT we get the parade of posers. I just don't get it. All look and "attitude" who has the biggest back tire and smallest front tire (like that pro street crap that ruined street cars for years). I had credibility when I rode my 63 Bonneville (wire actuated drum brakes, kick start, 6 volts) but none when I rode my yellow blast (other than the rev limited top speed a superior bike to the triumph in every way) even though the power the weight ratio was close to most HDs. Now on the 03 XB9 I get the - Oh its a blast look. But you know there is an upside to all of this. For those looking for a good used bike an XB9 is a great value for less than 4k you get a rock solid bike that gets 50 mpg. Its light and quick other than going through rubber like -- um - rubbers -- it’s an all round cheap way to go. In the end, 20 years from now, the customs and HD's will be rusting in the graveyard like the Cadillacs. I'll predict that Buell will be the collector's bike. My favor quotes, “I won’t even take it out till I clean it” and “I ordered it special with a carb because I like the popping should when I back off”. An on and on I rant....

I'm in the same boat as Cityxslicker.

My bike isn't muddy but it gets washed once, maybe twice a year so it's usually filthy and is never called cute : )

I have to tell you, I've had alot of people who have never seen or heard of Buell's where I live and they are always guessing it's like a 600cc bike and then they almost fall over when I tell them its 1200. I will tell you that I have a transformers decal on my flyscreen which led to the best compliment I've ever gotten (or at least the most comical) A guy I work with found out that the Buell outside was mine and he was like "Dude, that is the coolest thing I've ever seen, all I want to know is how big is the robot that it turns into?"

Kevin Drum of Drummer muffler fame sent me his version of a Buell race muffler to try out. In starting up the old Cyclone to depart the parking lot, I gave the old carbureted beast a bit of accelerator pump and it terribly startled a little boy walking by with his mother. The poor kid started crying. He was a cute kid though.

He's in good company. The same thing happened later at the Exxon station, but it was two guys leaning against their pickup trucks talking; well, they didn't cry; they just jumped up and whirled around with eyes as big as saucers.

Kevin is a bad man, but my Cyclone sure runs tough with that muffler.

I've had the opposite problem. I ride to work or anywhere else I can and always get "that's a cool bike" and I always reply "oh yeah, it's cute". If the conversation continues I'll either fire it up, or say "I think it's cute because it's a 1200cc, fuel injected, V twin, 103 hp bike that weighs less than 400lbs - that all 5'4" 120lbs of me can ride - FAST"
I guess I had better stop perpetuating the "cute" thing.
Sorry boys. But we do know better.......

I was outside a restaurant one day, talking to a guy on a beautiful customized Honda cruiser - He did a real nice job on it.
A pretty young waitress, leaving work, walked over and told me how much she liked my bike. - Not one word about the Honda.
-about shocked Mr. Honda to his knees.

She must have known her motorcycles.

I went to my local Cycle Gear store looking for replacement blinkers for my Lighting 12 S, when I young(beautifull) girl ask what it was for(Lighting 12S) her jaws drop took my money and walk outside to look at it. All the guys with their extended swingarm(ricers) and $3000.00 paint jobs where dumb found by her reaction. Oh well, to each its own.........

i cant say i have ever heard the cute comment but i do get a gasp when i tell them the displacement and weight, and the other day at the shopette on schofield barracks i had a soldier ask me if it was a KTM and i said no its a buell just like the big stickers on the air box say (i would thing gold letters with a black background would stand out a little) but i fired it up and i could have swore i seen a little drool come out of his mouth as his wife pulled him into the store

i love it when that happens

I popped into the Cycle Gear yesterday after an early morning run to Dalonegha (North Georgia). Just looking for some decent summer riding gear.

The guys were extremely interested in the Buell -- asked a ton of questions -- and the young guy who rode a Gixxer 600 chipped in that the Firebolts "turned in" beautifully.

No mention of cute.

When I was leaving, the guy came out to get an earful of the Odie pipe.

The only guys who rag on it are my Ducati friends. They just can't seem to help themselves...

Maybe it has to do with what those 'Bolts are doing to them on raceday? Hmmm.

A wet puppy dog is cute. XB9R -- not so much...
