Darth, dont believe that BS about the insurance going down when you hit 25. They told me that & it didnt..they just raised it to 30, then it was 35 then became 40 & now they tell me rates will drop when I hit 45 but will probably go up when I hit 50 because older drivers have more accidents.

What a damn crock that industry is, should all be arrested.

you don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the bikes will sustain $2000 or more worth of damage from falling off the kickstand? $1350 for a frame and labor to replace? an adjuster actually told an acquaintance of mine that aluma-fil was the company's policy towards dented fuel cells/ frames on the XB Buells.....


why couldn't they have added a mount for sliders on the new bikes? seems to me they might have got wind of this scenario....

My M2 was knocked over once in a parking lot and did little but to break the clutch lever and shifter. For my Firebolt, I will have my wife follow me in the van, carrying a set of construction cones for whenever I park.

Although I prefer the naked frame, I am seriously interested in frame sliders or the Trojan Horse carbon fiber.

I still believe the secret is not out on Buell's and that is why they are less than 1/2 the insurance cost of even the UJM 600's.

Im with you Dyna,insurance companies are a scam!But the got you by the ballsbecause you have to have insurance,and they all KNOW this!The insurance companies make so much money the build banks to put it in!What I really like about insurance companies is that you can have them for 10 years or longer,get in 1 wreck and they cancel you.Then you go try to get another company to insure you and they wont if you have been canceled or had any claims in the last 5 years,what a friggin scam!Another thing i think is just great about the way insurance companies work is,if they have a bunch of claims due to weather or someting,they raise EVERYONES RATES to make up that difference,forget about all the years they never had to pay out.I wish I had a job like that!

I posted a question about insurance a few weeks ago and got a lot of responses and suggestions. Thanks, but the bottom line is I will go from under $200.00 for my '00 M2 to the mid $400.00 range on the XB12R.

I'm 46 with a perfect driving record and all my other stuff with the same company. Face it guys, the new, cool stuff is going to cost you!!

I'm in the same boat Gearhead,I was also about $200.00 for my M2 through Insurance Underwriters.I canceled them today and now with State Farm which has my car's house and my family's life insurance.They are now charging me $415.00 a year.I called Progressive like Dyna said for kick's and they said $1500.00 I told them to
POUND SAND!!!

Progressive is the worst from what I have seen.

Want to try something fun, do some online quotes & put yourself in different cities. All other info the same & see what the difference is. Compare Chicago to Columbia S.Carolina or Blytheville arkansas to San francisco, etc.

Try New York City.....I pay well over $1,000/yr for a 1995 S2. Ford F-250 is over $3,000.

Dearborn's bad enough, and I don't even want to VISIT NYS, let alone live there. Not factoring age ('cause we all know Court's an old fart compared to me!) - my Firebolt is $1500 a year, the Blast was $800 a year (it went up from $500, but I recently dropped it to PLPD through Progressive for a mere $191 - still almost as much as half you guys pay for tubers), and my Ram 1500 Quad's over $2300.

Back on topic:

I demo'd a XB12S and a race kitted XB9R last Saturday. SOTP comparison using short bursts(hitting 80 mph max.) points to the 12 being
noticeably quicker. Who knows about top speed
but for a street bike I care more about acceleration (say 0-100).
Also, the 12 shifted better than the 9 and any other 9 that I have ever ridden (why?).

Well Court when you go from $172.OO TO $538.00 in one year thats insane.Thats more then just a 100% increase.And all they can tell you is they haven't raised there rate's in awhile????Everyone is doing it and it's wrong as far as i'm concerned.

I went from 300 or so a year on the S2 (250 deductible!) that included a "sport touring" discount with Universal to over 900 a year with Foremost at a 500 buck deductible - classified as a "sport bike"!!!! I got hit big time for being over 1000 cc.
Now I'm sorry, I love the S2, but it ain't exactly a Hi-abuseme, which it the group they lump me into.
the 9R/S doesn't hit the 1000cc limit, and nothing says the difference in price and insurance can't go to an 88" kit - unless the ins. co. does a tech inspection to measure my displacement, they never need to know ;)

LOL...my insurance company simply lumps displacement into "Under 500cc" and "Over 500cc" Obviously these people have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER ABOUT MOTORCYCLES.

Come up to Westchester. Only aour 35 miles away. We have trees, grass, cheaper housing and insurance and you don't have to pay to park.

The insurance business is extremely subjective and highly variable. When I was younger if you had a racing stripe on your car it would cost you more to insure it, peel the stripe off and your rates went down. It pays to shop around, it also pays to check into insurance rates when you move around as well.

Misato, to be perfectly honest with you, what's holding these motors back from making more is mostly the pipe, believe it or not. Sure, it's a terrific street pipe, but look at the torque curve, that's a picture of your cylinder fill. The pipe is giving a tremendous boost down low and a more modest boost elsewhere. Well, horsepower is torque times rpm. If you want to make horsepower, you have to use a pipe that puts it's torque peak at a higher rpm.

Don't get me wrong, I love the pipe and they help across the board and they really help make the things a unicycle because they come on so early. But to make a BIG horsepower number, it would need changes.

Aaron, out of curiousity, have you ran any XB9s with the 1050, Stage II or III, and Force/Nallins exhaust system? What kind of numbers was that putting out?
