Anyone done this mod? How did you like it. I am assuming you will get through the gears alot quicker on it. Which would be good in city/mountain riding. I say go for it, it should knock about 10 or 15 mph off your top speed, which you weren't using anyway, and it will turn your bike into a super torque monster. | ||

I've done it to a ULY. It makes for a very wheelie-happy bike, and the cut on top wasn't real bad. I wouldn't pay to do it, but if I bought a used bike that had it, I wouldn't un-do it, either. On a hooligan bike like a 12S, I'd definitely enjoy it more. | ||

We just did that to U4EUH's Bike. He is the fastest thing to hit 110mph out there. | ||

Yes, I did it primarily to have "engine braking". XB12S have ZERO engine braking when you get off the throttle. Sometimes I (we all do this) go into a turn a little hot and when I transition from acceleration to braking I want my motor to start the process of deceleration. With the XB9 crank gear I was able to achieve this plus accelerate out of the turn a little stronger! | ||

anyone know what changed about the primary gear in the 08 models? i was going to put my xb9 gear in my new 12S, but the tech said they had changed and it wouldnt fit an 08... | ||

Sounds like its a good mod to do!! It is a little pricey for the parts but if I got to go there anyways I figured I would ask. Now I am wondering if it effects the speedo? Seems like it would. Anyone know? Also does anyone know if it can be done and still retain the stock 12 chain? I am trying to cut price corners. Thanks guys | ||

Y'all will need the chain as well. I haven't heard of any speedo issues. | ||

The speedo sensor is driven off the transmission... 5th gear I think, which is on the output shaft and always spinning (regardless if it is being driven). So if you changed the pulley sprockets, then yes, the speedo would be off (as they are after the output shaft). But this is changing the drive ratio between the engine and the transmission, so the speedo will still be right. It's a cool mod. I would like to try my 9sx was geared just a *shade* lower, but can't easily do that (as I already have the 9 primary setup). | ||

it shouldn't effect the speedo if its only the front sprocket, your not changing the transmission gearing, just the motor to tranny. not sure where the speedo sensor is, but usually its closer to the final drive on most other vehicles. like front belt gear shaft. so in essence, the only way i can think of affecting the speedo would be to change out the belt gearing (rear wheel or tranny belt sprockets) beat me to it Reep. little girl called me away for breakfast mid sentence (Message edited by deadduck on April 16, 2008) | ||

i changed my primary gear in all my twin-cam harleys... no speedo problems and the biggest bang for the buck you will ever do...the cost isnt that much more than changing your front belt pulley, if yu buy from the right dealer.. |
