Just picked up an 08 XB12Ss on Saturday. Ride home was great...21 miles! Still in the break in mode. However on Sunday, after start up and letting it warm up, the check engine light came on after a minute of idle. I shut it down, let it sit, restarted, and again the check engine light came on after a minute. Any suggestions other than taking it back to the dealer? |

not sure if 08s is the same as the others, but you should be able to jump the diagnostic port which will have the check engine light flash the codes it is seeing. Someone else will chime in on the exact procedure. But as much as I hate the dealer, I would be bringing it right back. its only got 21miles and the check engine light is already on thats no good. |

Take it back to the dealer, it's a brand new bike. Let them deal with it. |

I should have my '08 Electrical Service Manual back later today (I loaned it to my dealer - don't ask, and he's a good guy, so I'm sure it will pay off later), so can give more info then, but what I would do.... I believe 8888 is correct, and you can jumper 2 of the pins in the diagnostic port and get the failure code. Once you have the code, and what the fault is, take it back to the dealer and tell the service writer "The check engine light is on" and go from there. If, for example, you have determined that the fault code is "blinker fluid is low" and the dealer tells you "blinker fluid was low", life is good. In any case, it is a warranty issue, and they should handle it. Best wishes for a quick resolution, and please let us know what happens. |

Take it right back to the dealer. Don't ride it hard on the way. |

Welcome to my world. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/351853.html?1208174008 More than likely, it's a quick fix thanks to the ECM's diagnostic function. However, since it's still in the very early break-in stage, my recommendation would be not to ride it until the dealer has picked it up and fixed it. In my case, it was a failed O2 sensor. Supposedly, Buell was to overnight the new sensor to my dealer so I hope to have the XT back tomorrow. |

Called the dealer and they said to bring it in to check what failure code is being flagged. They said it would be OK to ride it in. I assume that if anything happens on the 15 mile ride, the warranty will cover it...? |

Use a metal clip or something to short the #1 and #2 pins to each other, then turn the key to the on position. The check engine light will flash three times rapidly, pause two seconds, then flash (X) number of times for the first digit, pause two seconds again, then flash (Y) number of times for the second digit, then pause two seconds and flash three times rapidly again. It will repeat over and over again. It may display more than one code in succession. If so, it will pause two seconds between flashing each digit for each code. ie: three flashes - 2 sec. pause - (X) - 2 sec. pause - (Y) - 2 sec. pause - (A) - 2 sec. pause - (B) 2 sec. pause - three flashes ...and so on. The codes are preceded and succeeded by three rapid flashes. If, when you turn the key to the on position, all you get are rapid flashes, there is no trouble code. The trouble codes are as follows: 11 - TPS 13 - O2 sensor 14 - Eng. Temp Sensor 15 - Intake Air Temp sensor 16 - Battery Voltage 21 - Interactive Exhaust control (XB12 only) 23 - Front Fuel injector 24 - Front ignition coil 25 - Rear ignition coil 32 - rear fuel injector 33 - fuel pump 35 - tachometer 36 - cooling fan 44 - bank angle sensor 52,53,54,55 - ECM Failure 56 - cam sync failure this plug is under the left front side of the fairing on R models, not sure where on S models. All is well! Battery took a drop below 12V and triggered the check engine light. Dealer (Alef's HD in Wichita) charged it this morning and reset the system. Will be picking up a battery tender tomorrow! |

If it happens again, get them to replace the battery. I've heard of a few "bad" batteries being shipped on new bikes. They're mass produced, stuff like that happens from time to time but you shouldn't have to pay for it. |

Looks like I need a new battery. After the charge at the dealer last Wednesday, the bike ran fine all week. Took it out today and the check engine light comes on again in the middle of the ride. Get it home, shut it down and the fan will not even come on. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and it will not start now. Lights work and the starter is clicking, but obviously not enough juice to crank the engine. |

Glitch - Ditto on that one. You'd best have them check to make sure the bike is charging properly. From what you've said, I would say that it is not charging like is should. |

Well, the dealer picked up my bike yesterday. Didn't hear from them all day, so I called this afternoon. They said the battery was fried along with the regulator. 3-5 days out of commission waiting on the part! I asked why they did not overnight the regulator so I could have my bike for a Poker Run on Saturday, but really did not get an answer. I am a somewhat ticked since this problem should have been identified last Wednesday when I had it in. |

I have an 08 XB12R that is having the exact same problem. Dropped it off at the dealership yesterday and haven't heard a thing....guess I should call them. |
