I would recommend the American Sport Bike one. It is fully adjustable as far as I know. | ||

I use the LSL on my Bolt. Install was VERY easy. Its easy to adjust. The one and only problem I have had with it is I slammed it into the fender at Nelson Ledges before turn one. Under HEAVY braking I had some breaking of the front fender. Which is now about 3 inches shorter than it was..... FYI. | ||

If you ask me I'd go with the Hyperpro. I know many people that think Hyperpro and GPR make top of the line products but I don't think GPR makes a damper for XBs. I've been working on getting one of Hyperpro's progressive dampers on my R6. | ||

The LSL is fully adjustable. If I remember, there are ten clicks of adjustment by turning the rod by the knurled end. I lowered my forks 3/8 inch. when I installed it. It never contacted the fender. I like it. | ||

I run the LSL on mine too. It is adjustable and a very choice bit of hardware. However, on the Scg model it will contact the fender when the suspension is compressed 100% due to mounting location. I modified the mounting system for mine and no longer have this problem. I'd recommend you purchase one from Al @ American Sport Bike if you think you need a dampener. | ||

Im looking for one like the LSL that is under the steeringhead, but one that is fully adjustable. From my searching, it seems like the only adjustable ones are the side-mount ones, which I dont like because they are kindof an eyesore. That is the exact one that I have. The adjustment is at the end of the exposed rod in the damper. There is a knurled knob on the end of the rod. You turn this and there are, if I remember, 10 clicks of adjustment. I adjust mine 3 clicks in from the softest setting. If you have a low suspension bike you would have to make changes to keep from contacting the fender. Mine is a standard XB9S and I lowered the forks in the tree 3/8 inch for handling and I have never had it contact the fender. | ||

You must take in consideration that the Rider (me) w/gear "was" over 250lbs. I was going over 100 mph heading into turn 1 at Nelson Ledges. Grab a whole lot-o-front brake and thats what ya get.... More pre-load please. | ||

There are several other steering damper options Although Jack is happy with his LSL installation, I consider the dropping the forks 3/8" for clearance to be a less than ideal situation as it is a rather large change in the steering geometry of the Buell which is very sensitive to such changes. As far as athwartships mounting goes, there is the Buell Racing Ohlins shock, but this requires specialized fitting on a road bike, if it is possible at all. I think it might be a bit easier on an R than an S which has the area taken by the damper chock full of electrics. I have fitted a long stroke Ohlins in a side mount to my Buell, (and my Harley), on custom mounts, with very good results. Storz makes a side mount for the Buell, but the damper itself is less effective than the Ohlins. I saw a Hyperpro fitted to an XB Buell at March Badness, and I must say, I was very impressed with the set up, especially the quality of the mounts. So I guess my current pick would be the Hyperpro. | ||

I had dropped the forks on my bike before I got the damper. I prefer it to stock, it's a slight change in rake and trail - not as much as Buell gave the Ss. I use less preload on the fork springs and this combination feels much better for my personal taste. When I was looking to buy a damper the LSL was the only one available to fit my bike. I don't know if it would contact the front fender if my XB9S was in the standard setup. Jon's setup seems nice, he was able to make it himself. I didn't have the confidence to try to make my own setup, but I had thought about it. It would have saved me some cash. (When I bought mine, I could only find it from England) No place to buy it here. In the end, I am very happy with the setup. Now you have other options to consider. | ||
