In ATL -- got some biz in LA -- thinking about riding cross-country on the XB9R.

Anybody ever done this? Am I insane?

I just trust it more than my Guzzis and Ducati -- and it gets better mileage.

I rode from Phoenix Arizona too California and from Cali home too Kansas City once on a 600r Ninja. I think the firebolt would tour well with the right setup i.e. the saddlebags tailbag. I plan on taking mine on some trips so if you do it let me know your afterthoughts.

Depends how long you plan on taking and the route. If you stay off the highway and do 300 miles a day it could be fun but if you were going to cannonball it in 2 or 3 days it would suck.

I cannonballed it. It's certainly not ideal, but it's hard to get time off work. Even if you do cannonball it, the experience is priceless. It is certainly hard, and lots of it isn't "fun" but I am so glad I did it.

Except I started in Orange, VA and stopped to have dinner with Buell owners in Marietta, GA and I was going to San Diego which is a bit closer than LA.

I did 1500 miles in four days on my old 12R once. Had the custom seat and S pegs. Not the same amount of miles but the bike was more comfortable on the last day than on the first. 500 mile days were fine but I didn't ever have more than two together.

Did Austin, TX to Knoxville in 17 hours on the 12r. Just remember to stretch out at every gas stop and you'll be fine.

I rode from Kentucky to Vancouver BC and back in the 70s on a Honda 400F, so I'm certainly not going to call somebody else nuts for a long ride on a 'bolt. I say go for it! It'll be an adventure.

Done it on my Sporty. Only thing that keeps me from doing it on my 9R is lack of meaningful luggage, and not wanting to burn a set of tires doing it.

4200 miles round trip, I would recommend getting a set of high mileage touring tires before you go, or you're likely to be returning on flat-spotted tires showing cord. Good luck, post pics!

Did LA to Sarasota FL and back on a BMWR1100s two years ago. Does that count?

Might want to invest in a better seat by the way (Corbin or the Tour saddle from Buell)
Oh yeah, look me up when you get here...

400 day one
200 day two bike issues
600 day three "Very Stupid on my part being a unknown bike and being by my self.."

Like my Old timer neighbor says, You'll be so numb by the fourth day you won't feel the pain anymore

Id say "GO FOR IT" What an exciting experience and the stories you'll be able to brag about. VS. "My flight was delayed, sat next to a crying baby for six hours, lost my luggage etc. etc.
