..........is that normal? I started a cold engine and let it idle 3 minutes then checked, both pipes glowing red. Temps here are in the 40's.

If the bike was out in the sun I'd be worried.
If the bike was in the garage, not so much.

At idle this seems to be normal. I know my 12R had the same issue. Get it out and ride it and the problem will go away.

Yes, it's normal, though most people don't notice because it has to be pretty dark to see. I assume it was dark?
