So last night I decided to do a little mod. to the XB12R and relocate the plate. I remove the whole Lic. Plate bracket and side reflectors. Looks pretty cool without. Now I put the plate under the fender just above the start of the rear tire guard. I finish and MAN!! It looks freakin sweet. Well today I go home for lunch and figure I'll ride my bike to work. All is nice, I thinking about just how cool the new plate location is while getting onto the highway when I hit a little bump in the road and it jars the hell out of my back end. WOW!! I dont remember it being that hard of a bump..I ride another 15 minutes and get to work after hitting some railroad tracks and a couple of curbed entrances before parking...man they where felt so much more than normal. I get off my bike and walk around the back to admire my new mod. when I notice my plate is buckled completely over just up to the numbers. I can't believe I would be so dumb as to forget to figure the travel of the suspension. I hit my plate over every bump I hit and its close enough to the edge of the tire guard that the plate hit the tire itself. So, back to the drawing board for a few more adjustments. Im gonna trim the bracket down a lot more and a remove about another 1 to 1 1/2" of my plate to raise it up some more. Hopefully this should do it, If not, I'll have to move it out even more, making two more holes . I'll attach a picture once I fix it, The sad thing is, is that I just got a new plate a week ago and it already looks worse than the old one. STUPID!! |

It's called live and learn...now I won't do that because you did! At least you still have the plate! |

Nope, no cuts. I forgot to take a picture of the finished product last night. Just a couple questions though about the legalities of this mod. First, I cut my plate on the top and bottom to shorten it, the numbers, state, tabs are all very legible. But is it against the law to mod. a plate period..Im in Washington state. Second, I removed the reflectors on the tail end all together, but I do have reflective firebolt shape tape on the tail section. I also have a single white LED light that I plan to mount under the rear fender aimed toward the plate to light it up. I know thats a law. What do you guys think? The plate Im happy to say will no longer be an issue as far as it hitting..I will attach pictures later today. |

First off, IIRC moving your plate anywhere other than the VERY BACK of your bike is illegal. Second, You cannot modify a plate in any way shape or form, no cuts, no stickers, no nothing! This is in GA I dont know about WA. Anyway I had my plate screwed directly to the undertail as low as I could and never got any crap. |

I just kept mine in the stock position but I used a grinder and cut off the reflectors and excess metal.

They're my original wheels. I had them done, along with the rear pulley. Pretty sharp, eh? |
