I want to put a new timing cover on my xb9s but can find many timing/cam covers. There are tons for the harleys but they say up til 03 sportsters. Anyone know what year harley points cover fits the buell? I like the Jack Daniels ones, but they never say that they fit the xb. | ||

Any year? , it looks like some of the covers have the holes on a 45 dgree angle and the buell is at a horizontal? | ||

the rivets are side to side, but the actual screws underneath are are 45 degrees, you can drill and tap the under cover for the side to side or just use the existing at 45 degrees | ||

i'd seen those, just didn't realize that threaded holes were already there. why didn't they just use screws then at the factory if the threaded holes were already there? doesn't jive in my rather small brain. | ||

I tapped the rivet holes and installed screws of the same thread pitch. (Message edited by new12r on March 24, 2008) | ||

At your dealership is the only place I know. You are talking about the actual gearcase cover, right? The black thing in the above pic that has seven bolts holding it firmly in place? | ||

Here is mine, Replaced it after i dropped my 9r.  . i used a dremmel to even out the cam cover where there was a little rash. I'm going to use a little touch up paint to cover up the bare metal.  | ||

Yes, the gear case cover for an xb12r is what I am looking for. I was trying to avoid the dealer to save some cash. Manimal how much of a pain is it to take off? I could prolly do the same thing as you. The lip around the sensor needs to be smoothed down. Do you think it would hurt the sensory to stick out alittle further than the cover? I wouldn't mind to paint it black also. | ||

Sfinton, The sensor should be fine i think. on my 03 9r it was located at 12 0'clock and it went down about half way down the cavity. I'll explain what i did and hope it helps. I bought the timing cover pictured, off ebay for about 35 bucks. I then drilled out the rivets. A tip on drilling them out. Use a bit that is just slighlty larger than holes in the rivet. After that you can take the outer covering off. There will then be a second cover that has 2 small bolts. take them out and pull off the cover. Now just match up your new cover over the sensor cavity. I used a dremmel to just lighty grind the excess off the cam cover until the timing cover fits snuggly. You might want to get some new stainless bolts for your new cover. You wont want them rust. Also some medium strength (blue) Loctite might not be a bad idea. I've heard a couple people say that their cover rattled off. Hope this helps ya and good luck. Let me know how it goes.  | ||

Manimal, I just purchased the bike this past weekend in Indianapolis. I did not notice the foot pegs turned backwards. I did notice that the metal brackets for the foot pegs were not alligned with the seat frame. I wasnt sure if that was the way it was supposed to be or not. The dealer told me it was owned by an older gentlemen (not abused) and it had been dropped on the right side. Hopefully I didnt buy someone elses problem. Thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully it will not be to hard to turn the brackets around. I think I just need to flips sides. | ||

I have seen the reverse pegs before. They were so they would not fold up when the rider lays flat at high speed. | ||

Yeah Sfinton, if you flip sides you will be right on the money. Its cake to do. Just two large hex head bolts holding them on. Hope the timing cover project works out for ya. |
