+1 for Pwnzor's recommendation. IMO this is one wheel that is round enough and does not need reinventing. $7 for One bottle. |

75-90W gear oil has got to be a killer for the clutch. I'd bet it would never release on a cold morning. + formula + |

Have it shipped to you. That's what I have to do. American Sport Bike is very reasonable, and ships fast. |

75-90W gear oil has got to be a killer for the clutch. No I was using gear oil, and the clutch never was any different, what was affected was the stator. If you use gear oil, expect the stator to burn up after a while. You can use motor oil. I use Formula +, after two stators, I'll use no other. |

+1 AmsOil 20w50 both holes. K&N-177 oil filter. Call them up or order off the internet and in two days it is on the front porch. Amsoil K&N Filters Stay away from mobil 1 gear oil. Not compatible with our stators. |

Besides having to have it shipped (or having to pick some up when you run past a dealer), is there a reason why you would NOT want to use Formula+? |

It's NOT just the weight of the oil - the formulation for the primary is NOT just crankcase oil. You should use an oil formulated for diesel. If I recall, it has a much higher zinc concentration than normal crankcase oil and functions better with the wet clutch and chain. I've used the Hardley Formula dino oil, Syn 3 and also Redline Shockproof - but I change it very frequently. Mostly use Syn 3 because it's easy to get here locally. only because i cant get it local. and because if it has harley stamped on it,does not mean it is the best in the world. and yes i have replaced a stator before, not the funest job, but not to tuff. thanks shawn |

Formula+ is not the "best" in the world, but it is by far not the worst either. Unless you are running through gallons of it on a regular basis, and unless you have a deep seated belief that it will somehow damage your internal primary components, I can't see how a bit of a proximity challenge and a buck or two additional cost per quart will make any difference. Good luck in your search. I'm sure whatever choice you make will be best for you. |

Obviously HDI doesn't make their own oil, but they do have their own blends that were developed specifically for their engines. Unless you feel like HDI has some consipracy going to methodically destroy engine so it's toasted right after the warranty is up and you have to spend more money with them to get it fixed, I'd stick with the factory fluids if at all possible. That said, I know a lot of foks who run Amsoil with no issues. |

we all like choices ,personally i like something that is readily available, like at the auto parts store.(ever try to get into a HD shop after 6:00 pm ?) i've been using either the mobil 1 m/c V-twin oil 20/50 or the valvoline m/c 20/50 for my primary oil.now the motor oil does not need additives for wet clutch, so IMO most any premium oil should do fine . a synthetic or semi-syn is prefered.(20/50) |

I change mine every time I change my engine oil. No Harley dealer local? American Sport Bike will ship to your door, order a case. You'll eventually use it and won't be sorry for it.

Man, doesn't anyone do research on this? This topic comes up monthly... Don't use a gl5 gear oil unless specifically recommended by the oil mfg. Options: formula, mobil1, royal purple, redline, amsoil, etc. I HIGHLY recommend mobil 1 15w 50. This way there's only one oil to purchase... Isn't that simple! And you can get it ANYWHERE! |

Another fan of amsoil mc20w50 in both holes. Fan runs much less when running, I could not be happier with it. I use a wix filter. |

I run AmsOil in the both holes in the race bike (12R) and used it in the street 12R for just under 10.000 miles before trading it. Worked great |
