Hey i dont know if this helps or not. I have a 2007 xb9 and it holds 2.5 quarts exactly. Tranny holds 1 quart.

The 2.5 quarts includes 4 ounces which should be poured into the oil filter when that is changed, so that the engine is not starved for oil when it is first started after the changed.

Drain the oil when the bike is hot.

A recent thread on this site discussed the first oil change situation rather comprehensively:

At the risk of appearing to repeat myself, I do recommend clicking on this link.

This entire subject was discussed at heartwarming length just last week.

Asking for oil recommendations is like asking about religion.

I'm a believer in Mobil-1 synthetic 15-50. Any full synthetic will be great (the right weight of course) but the Mobil-1 can be had in gallon jugs at Wal-Mart for cheap!

Mobil 1, 15W50, in the motor is the ticket. As Perry said, Wally World is the preferred supplier. Buy the gallon jugs.

While I am there, I go for the Super Tech 4967 filters which are two bucks and made by the same people, Champion, who make the eight dollar Buell filter.

People used to use Mobil 1 gear oil in the primary chain case, but it seems that it damaged the stator, so lots of guys went to the recommended Harley oil, Formula +, out of an abundance of caution, and to protect their warranty. Seems to shift just as smoothly as synthetic if the primary chain and clutch are properly adjusted.

In my Harley, I use Mobil 1 Vee Twin oil in all three holes, engine, primary and tranny, but it cost as much as Harley oil and is rather difficult to find.

There is some reason that this is supposed to make sense, but I forget what it is:-).

Seems like overpaying is a Harley Tradition.

I like K+N filters for the Hog because of the nut on the end is useful since the Harley filter is really jammed in there.

Hey I have a question about how often to change the oil.
If I'm using the HD 20w50 in the motor and Formula + in the tranny/ primary. Is it 5000 miles for the engine and 5000 for the tranny/primary?
Or is it 3000 for the engine and 5000 for the tranny/primary.
Does the Mobile 1 V twin change out the same, if i switch to it in all 3
I'm riding an 01 M2
Thanks
