My 08 lightning wobbles side to side as if it's thinking of starting a "tank-slap" when i hit 60+mph highway turbulence. Is this normal? I'm not sure if this is just due to the bike's short wheelbase/tall rake or if something else is going on. Damper?

I would get it back to the dealer ASAP! Not a normal situation. The bike should be rock steady at speeds well over 60 MPH.

I ride a 03 lightning and was concerned about high speed front end wobble. Turned out to be loose fitting sleves on my jacket.
I have had no hi speed problems after correcting this problem.

Could also be your suspension settings on the forks. Check to see if they're set correctly and evenly.

Yeah get your owners manual/shop manual out and look at your suspension and wheels/tires. Start with factory settings for your weight and go from there.

Also, make sure you don't have something loose flapping around such as your gear or luggage or something like that.

I've had mine up to 140+ and she felt rock solid. Admittedly I do have a steering dampener, but I don't think I really need one for riding on the street. I just like the idea of having a little extra just in case.

Also try not to have the death grip on the handlebars.

yeah sounds like your suspension is not set up right, either that or someone forgot to put head bearings in your neck.

Make sure the wheel weight is on the correct side, and in the correct amount (the dealer will have to check balance amount).

How many miles on the bike?

Tire pressure?

Don't let them chrage you for any of this, either.

Don't forget to check the rear wheel, tire, and the swing arm bearings too.

Sometimes a problem with the front wheel is caused by something bad astern.

Also check to make sure the front wheel weight is on the brake rotor side.

How windy was it out? I have noticed that if I am upright on my Firebolt, going down the interstate on a windy day, the front-end will dance around. Discovered it was because I was holding onto the handlebars tightly to keep from being ripped off the back of the bike. The wind was pulling me back, causing me to pull back on the bars, making the front-end dance with each small jerk. I just lean forwards a bit now, and keep my weight on my legs. No problems since : ). I would also check to make sure your suspension is setup to your weight.

kruger, you'll find that there are a bunch of people (myself excluded, i'm just the resident loud dumb guy) that know as much if not more about these bikes than the people who build, repair and sell them.

I set the front suspension to my weight specification per the manual.

Make sure to set it for your weight + all gear. Gear can easily add 20lbs to your overall weight.

Just to settle any curiosity, the neck was too loose. The main bolt on the triple-tree was tightened and NO MORE DANCING! Thanks
