Just out of curiosity....

If an '08 XB was scheduled to "ship" from the factory on any given date...

...say March 14th,

when would the assembly process actually start on said XB?

I watched the "Direct from the Factory" video and if I'm to believe it, the elves work at super-human speeds and start-to-crate- takes about minute and a half.

No idea on from order to start to ship, but...

At one of the homecomings I asked how many bike per day they can or do put out and it, at that time, was about 80 or so per day max capacity and they were currently producing about 45 or 50...

When the XB9S was introduced I went to get one, all they had was yellow, so I asked for a black one. That was mid March, I got the bike at the beginning of April. The date on the frame is March. So I'm guessing start-to-crate would be around a month, but could be cut by a couple of weeks if pressed.

If I understand/remember correctly, they only build to order (what dealerships have ordered).

That is inaccurate.

The build schedule for the year is constructed off a forecast.

Orders are placed 3 times a year and forecasts adjusted as necessary.

MRP is an entire subject unto itself.

The actual build takes around a 1/2 hour, bike goes from engine block through 22-25 different stations to final ride test and completion. Really an incredible process, A year later I am still totally impressed by it. Elfin Magic indeed. Your bike may have a build date, the real date you want is when it is released to holding, and from there to shipping. from shipping once it is on the truck, you should see it with in a week, barring snow ice and tornados that impede delivery. Once it hits the dealer then it will be need final PDI, It really is a fast process all things considered, way better than the guys that wanted the FXCWC Rocker C got.
