so i have been riding the last couple days and everything has been perfectly fine. no problems starting up, riding, or anything. last night i rode to class got off the bike came back out to the bike went to start it and it would not start. the needles would jump, the needle board lights would come on, the brake lights worked, the blinkers worked...but my headlights would not come on, the fuel pump would not kick on, and the bike would not even try to turn over. i tried dumping it, that did not work. i checked my fuses they all seemed ok. i dont get why the headlights and fuel pump would not turn on, along with the bike wouldnt turn over, but everything else would come on at the turn of the key. i found a wire down on the right side of bike that led into a plug..its a pretty decent sized square shaped plug with three wires running into it. it had a little bit of tape over it so i unpealed it and u could see the wire inside and it was frayed a little bit. i guess the guy before me did not take care of it like he should have. but i need to know if anyone can give me an idea of why my lights arent working and the bike wont prep itself and than start. thanksss | ||

What if you're in neutral with the side stand up? | ||

? would that make a difference? i had the kickstand down in neutral and all the acc. would work, but the lights would not come, the fuel pump would not go on when i flipped the run switch...and the red engine light would not kick on, and the starter button did nothing. | ||

and i did try to start it after putting the kickstand up it still made no difference...i was reaing some on this site it could be relay and diodes but idk i want someone to read my problem and mayb give me an answer if possible | ||

Sounds like maybe an in ignition switch issue hitting accessory but not run. Weird. | ||

if it was ignition switch how come my lights do not come on? thats on the others set of switches | ||

Check the starter relay. It is on the left side of the instrument cluster. I had a similar issue and that was the cause. The relay is around six bucks at the dealer. Hope that helps. Good luck | ||

I was thinking it might have been the clutch switch, or the kick stand switch, is why I asked. I hate electrical gremlins. | ||

What other set of switches? Can you post a pic of the connector you mentioned? | ||

Check the three relays next to the fuses, they should all click when the ignition is switched on. I bet it is the key switch relay. | ||

i would put a picture on but i cannot till later im at work right this minute....and can someone throw a picture of these relays spoken about im getting kind of confused by which relays they are...the little fuse box panel that holds the small fuses...the relays are incorporated into that panel? | ||

Yep, they're plastic squares that plug into the fuse box, beside the fuses. They're all the same so you can swap them around, if the bike starts after swapping them around, you've found your problem. new ones are about a buck apiece. | ||

It is the relay that they are talking about. I had the same exact thing happen to me last summer. The ones you have on the bike are no longer used. Get the updated ones from a newer Buell and replace all three. There is a space for a spare as well. I bought 4 and gave my old ones that were still good to friends for spares. I have the part numbers at home if needed. I switched the relay so my bike started but I had no instrument panel. | ||

do you think you could get me part number i am going to stop by dealership anyway to get...i stop at harley dealership right? i dont have to go searching for a buell shop because they are the same thing. | ||

Relay Numbers: Old P/N is 31522-00B new P/N is 31522-00C. Picked up a few at the local dealer. $5 or so each. Kaveman Sorry to hijack the thread... |
