Hello everyone,

I'm about to purchase my first Buell, a 2005 CityX with 21k miles after a long long time of waiting. The dealer is trying to sell me a year long service contract for $495 that covers all parts and labor on non-expendable items (details here: http://www.pppcoverage.com/fs/fs_cycles.htm )

Right now I'm thinking of passing since I can do all my own work, Buell parts seem to be cheap, and after 21k miles all the bugs should be worked out. Is there any flaw in my thinking?

I think you're being smart.
$495 is a lot of cash.
I wouldn't part with that cash if I were you.
New bike...maybe.

Noway I'd buy it...my head is hurting from trying to read what is and is not covered.

These "Service Plans" are a gamble. You may get Lucky ??? and trash a motor and it's covered BUT mostly you hand over $500.00 and get a piece of paper that dies in a year and the only thing you are is $500.00 poorer.

Just MHO.

Besides $500.00 will buy a bunch of cool stuff to add to your bike!

If you have a covered repair, you are at their mercy for them to pay and chances are they will not.

My dad has the Service Plan on his harley. Basically, for the next year, whenever he needs the 5,000 miles service done, he doesnt pay a dime for it. With as much as he rides, he could easily have the bike in for service 3 times in one year : ). I have the 2 year warranty on my buell. It bascially covers any parts that were on the bike when I bought it. So if anything goes wrong with the bike, that wasnt from my modding, will be covered! Was $1000 for 2 years.

I relented and go the extended svc contract for my 12R when I bought it I'm glad I did as the road in MI/Oh suck and I've had to replace 2 tires already and didnt have to pay a thing.

This service contract wouldn't have paid for tires or regular service, just stuff that broke. I can get a lot of parts for $500 so I went without.
