Found some fluid under my XB9R this morning. Hoped it was fuel but it's oil coming off shaft of the rear shock absorber. Does anyone know of someone that rebuilds them or if there are any rebuild kits available for the shock absorber? |

Before rebuilding the shock, make sure that the oil is not coming from somewhere else, like loose oil lines. That has been reported here before. If your shock is leaking all its oil out, you should notice the lack of damping rather easily. The shock can be rebuilt by most motorcycle suspension specialist, (it is made by Showa, I believe), but it may be more economical to just buy another. Lot's of good used takeoffs on eBay and the classifieds here. Or...... you can take the opportunity to upgrade to a Penske, Ohlins or other higher quality shock. The stocker is nothing special. |

Since these shocks are gas charged, if it has leaked oil, you can bet the gas has been long gone. But do as Jon said, and eliminate oil coming from somewhere else. If it is dead, check the classifieds here. I got one for $40 from a BadWeBber, when mine went. Thanks Fran_dog! |

There is no doubt that it is shock oil. The rest of the bike is spotless. The OEM shock will set me back $267.00 but that will come as a complete assembly ready to install. I put one on order and now I'm checking out a place in Woodstock, Georgia that rebuilds them. If they rebuild it I'll have a spare. It's all about minimizing downtime. Sunny, warm days + Buell in garage = grumpy old man. What can I say? MarchBadness is just around the corner. |

I'm checking out a place in Woodstock, Georgia that rebuilds them. Traxxion Dynamics. They do a great job!! I rode Shred's Duc 800ss with the AK20's they do on the front!!! OMG I have never felt such feedback, If it wasn't his race bike and he didnt have to race it the next weekend I would have pushed a lot harder! |

I had the same problem a month ago. Managed to find a cheap second hand one , but havent installed it yet. Im surprised how well the bike is handling with the old brken one on there. It doesnt handle the bumps too well, bike the bike handles the corners super well. I was wondering about the cause of the leak. Do you think winter has anything to do with it. Supercold shock then super heated by the engine warming up etc... |

Can't say enough good about Traxxion! (also, brace yourself... If you ask him, Max will tell you the only thing to use the stock Showa for is a doorstop) - but he can rebuild them. |
