As some may remember I had an impending engine failure... And in the end it was covered by "will-call", Thank you Buell! While I was waiting for the XB to be brought back to life I ended up getting an 1125R, now the 1125R is in the shop... but that is besides the point. I absolutely adore my firebolt! It is by far the best motorcycle I have ever ridden, it makes me feel so alive. There is just so much grunt everywhere, and the handling is just incredible. What a fabulous machine! It feels so solid and planted, and it coaxes one to push it just a little more. Always eager for take off... At this point I am very much regretting committing to sell it, oh well too late now... At least it is going to a friend of mine so it won't be far from home. I also realized that I somehow managed to wear out the front rotor already, luckily I have a new one tucked away... As well as my 4 or 5th set of brake pads. And since I cannot help myself I guess I will rebuild the front caliper while I am at it. So anyone who is in doubt about buying the firebolt, there is no reason to be! Its good jolly fun. One final note... there is no more pinging! Which was the only reason I bought the 1125R... bah!  P.S. it is clear that the cat fancies the XB over the 1125... (unfortunately so do I... but maybe things will be different when it comes back from the shop) | ||

I am not sure if they attempted to fix the pinging, I believe that everyone had given up on that long ago... My guess it has something to do with resetting the timing, although that was done several times before the engine break down. It could have been that there was just something catastrophically wrong with the internals from the start...? Good news finally getting the 1125R back tomorrow! | ||

I can't figure out why, but I love my XB too. Tough to find this much "character" in a newish production bike. | ||

The other one is even furrier, but he is usually much too busy running around... Indeed its hard to explain what makes the XB so "magical"... I do not even want to go into the whole 1125 thing... So to remedy the unpleasant mood the XB was pampered today! New rotor, the old one was toast. Lyndal Gold pads.   Tomorrow; -replace the tired battery -500 mile, break-in oil change -change the brake fluid -Also an "ultra" cleaning is in order, got some novus 1,2, and 3 | ||

Wow......almost forgot what a new front rotor looked like.........!! Not even a hint about what happened to your 1125....??? I'm purchasing an '08 Firebolt this Spring. I own a '03 Lightning and it will be very difficult to sell that XB. I love it, but I don't think that I can keep both. | ||

I got my 1125R back, and it still does not start when its warm. Also I did not care to check how the valves are looking and whether the airbox is still letting through dust/grit. They tinkered with it for a while, and well no luck yet, not to mention the rear brake does not appear to concern anyone too much. When I initially decided to sell it, it was before I had got it back. So I was expecting it to continue to ping, which it no longer does... So at this point I am a bit torn; the only reason I bought the 1125R is because it should not ping, and I needed a way of getting around while the firebolt was being mended. I am so tempted to keep it... and possibly get rid of the 1125... | ||

It sounds like selling the Firebolt will induce severe heart ache. Possibly the fatal kind. Think it over very carefully before selling. I only know you from your posts but it sure sounds a lot like you love the bolt and the 1125R might possibly have been an affair. | ||

Sell the 1125, keep the 'bolt! Funny how the dealers keep telling me the 1125 is so much better but you know what -- I don't buy it. For someone new to Buelling it is a great option to have in the product lineup, but I already own the bike I want, and the only thing I would change is it's height -- can we get a lowering kit from Buell for us short people please!  | ||

In all honesty, I would love, I mean LOVE to have an 1125R as a second bike. But not as my only bike. It is a totally crazy awesome machine. The fairing still blows my mind away how amazingly well it works. And I get giddy remembering the power of the one I rode But.. it is limited in its versatility compared to my S as for my intended use. Retritton, you could always throw the cg suspension on your Bolt. This would involve changing the forks, lower triple clamp (Your 07 has 43mm forks. cg forks are 41mm and require the smaller diameter lower triple), rear shock and kick stand. It would drop you 0.8" There's usually some one around with a cg wanting to swap parts for a standard height suspension so it's mostly a question of whether slightly under an inch of dropped height is worth your time & labor. | ||

Tom, I think you are right I would be heart broken. If only the affair with the 1125R were more lustful and passionate... Like with the Ducati S4... Ehren, We shall see how Buell wants to handle the 1125R situation... | ||

The 1125r is a brand new model. Nobody knows jack about it. If you are lucky, the tech at the shop went to school for it but this just might be his first "hands on" job. My point is that when you buy a first year model, you are taking a chance... Luckily you are dealing with Buell. Take your problems to Buell Customer Service, right after giving the dealership an honest try at correcting the problem. Shit will happen. That's a beautiful Firebolt. I have felt the same way as you must feel about both my Lightnings and my Ulysses. If I were you, I would keep both bikes if possible. Who knows, maybe in time the love can be the same for the 1125r as it is for your Firebolt. I would love to have an 1125r, even as first year model (because of my experiences with Buell Customer Service). I don't think I would want to try that with a Ford or a Honda. |
