I just tried to order a new belt for my '03 bolt, and the dealer told me that the pulley assembly, part numberG0604.02A8D, has been made obsolete/discontinued. What the hell is that all about. If the manufacturer recomends replacing the Idler pulley with the belt, where are we supposed to get them???? I guess its off to ebay, but what am I supposed to do if the bearings fail? I guess at the next belt service interval its off to the chain gang.

A pulley on ebay might be no better than the one you have.
I would give Buell a call to verify that a new replacement is not available.
I can't believe that that is a fact.

Call Al at American Sport Bike to get the straight story on that part.

With all the tuber parts that are still available, I can not find room in my brain to believe that anything on an '03 is obsolete or discontinued

I'm guessing that it updates to a later pulley, and your dealer is lacking.

There was a difference in pulleys that Josh Cox and I ran into when looking at converting an XB12S to an SS swingarm. The pulleys were marked differently, and were dimensionally different.

Buell won't leave you hanging. I believe they must offer full parts inventory for 7 years as a manufacturer. I am not 100% positive that's fact, but I think so.

that is odd. i just looked it up. you can get the front and rear sprockets for the 03, but not the idler pulley or even idler assembly.

and it isnt superceded to anything either.

Gearhead998, The idler has been upgraded again. The new number is G0604.02A8E. Your dealer just didn't look hard enough.

Save your money and just replace the bearings. $15 vs $100.

i'd say they probably did look, i looked also.

you typ the G0604.02A8D into hd net and it says obsolete. doesnt superced it to anything.

so where did you come up with G0604.02A8E at? since it is in none of my books? but it does come up as a valid part number just doesnt say what it fits.

No rice,
You are correct. I did more research and called SPOC. It does not supersede. I even did a kit break down of both the D and E kits. The only difference is the idler wheel. The idler wheel in the E kit is for the 1125R.

Gearhead998,
You can buy the parts from the kit individually. They are still available from Buell.

Here's the deal,
the 04' and up PULLEY is the same!

only the aluminum bracket is different on the 03's.

Buell only sells the idler as an assembly(pulley & bracket) hence the different part # for 03's

Just buy the 04 - 08 assembly and use only the pulley on your 03 and you're all set.

interestingly enough, the 04 & up assembly is cheaper (less $$$) than the 03 assembly, so there's another perk.

Having said all that, I personally would only change the bearings for $20 at a bearing supply house as others have suggested above.

Ya know, a lot of these so called dealers would do themselves a huge favor by doing a little research on the subject themselves before just telling a customer that the customer can't get what they need.

I bought 10 of them a while back,

They were NTN 6203's same as the OEM's

I paid just over $10 each I believe, at a local supply house.
I pretty sure I still have a bunch left over out in my shop.

I changed my bearings on a 04 bolt, gave the bearing supplier the size code from origonal bearings :- 6203LAX30 ,(thats the size code and seal type) .To check your code is the same for an 03 just remove the pully from the bracket wipe clean to find numbers hey presto order your bearing.

FYI:

I like to use bearings that are not "Made in China" I like NTN outta japan.

Disassemble idler first before you run out and get a set of 6203's

I have an early 9R. Mine had a single bearing and the 2 6303's would not fit.

I'll try to find the exact nomenclature of the single bearing if you need it.
