Did a bit of work on my '03 XB and had to take off the muffler. It's a race kit version. The muffler has some surface rust spots and I am thinking of painting it Satin Black... Or should I leave it factory silver? Opinions... Maybe JetHot? But that'll take a while. What's your $.02? Kaveman | ||

3 - 4 coats high temp bbq paint - bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 10 - 15 minutes in between coats - i'm partial to flat black myself | ||

I'm partial to Ceramic & Black:  Coating a muffler is about $55. Headers are significantly more expensive. | ||

I had my Race Can powdercoated with high temp PC.  Black is the fastest color. | ||

I painted my race can flat black with high-temp BBQ paint. Looks killer IMO. Powdercoat or JetHot would be nice, but what I did works for my purposes just fine. | ||

I did the high-temp BBQ paint on mine and I love it. The silver looked dirty all the time. I can send a pic of my bike if you would like. | ||

BBQ paint works well Bill...and from a fellow cheap ass to another...helps hide a crappy welding job too. Even if you don't get it as clean as it needed to be, how much is a can of paint? just repaint every few oil changes if needed.  | ||

Here's A pic of the pipe after paint. This all started with my decision to change over to an '07 sidestand setup. Had to remove the muffler to get at the 2 bolts for the bracket, saw the surface rust on the muffler, had to add paint... And... Since I was there, an oil/filter change and primary oil / adjust. The "snowball" just started rolling! Roll on! I know what you mean. Looks nice by the way. Now, paint the middle part of the chin fairing black as well, no need to stop that snow ball! Just curious, why did you go with the 07 side stand? I like how the 03s are solid. | ||

Glitch, I went with the '07 side stand setup because it seems to be much more sturdy. My '03 setup had lots of "slop" in it if you took off the spring. Also wanted to get rid of the '03 "pin" w/threads as there are stories of them failing and the bike falling over. For the few $$$ it cost for the parts, I feel much better about the bike not landing on the car in the garage in the middle of the night! Kaveman | ||

+1 Glitch on painting the front of the Chin spoiler black too. The grey is a pain to keep clean.  Of course, no one is stopping you from painting the flyscreen black too, now that you been shakin' the can. Natcherly, the genuine official Bad Web cheapskate never actually buys a can of high temp barby paint. No need too. There is always a half full can in your neigbor's garage, am I right, my brothers?
