I'll wave regardless- Either I get a wave back or I teach them to read between the lines. Unless its obvious they're too busy focusing on the road/something else.

I always wave or nod if I can. I can't worry about why they might not.

The reason why I wave is because I share a passion with the person I’m encountering, there’s no passion in scootering

Wow.. never thought of it that way. I like the way it was put though. Also someone said that they are MC in training... Yeah. I have no problem waving to them, Just asking the typical action around. I don't think anyone actually made a rule to wave at other riders... it was just adopted. Thought I would ask what we SHOULD do... Lets face it the scooters nowadays are SEMI cool. Past ones where pretty Fugly.

I said SEMI COOL

ifn you are crazy enough to be out on two wheels you will get a wave from me. Now if I am out playing in the MUD, you'll get a wave even if you are driving a Jeep ;)

I wave at all other motorcycles and I always wave back. However I never wave first to scooters, mopeds.... or bicycles. dunno why, maybe I should? I wonder why people on cruisers always look so mad? wearing their little stupid soup bowl helmet, leather vest and of course leather chaps...heehee

I was ridding in the rain a couple of weeks back and pulled up next to a bicycle commuter. He got the thumbs up! And I got a big nod back.

i wave at all m/c riders . the reason those chopper guys look so mad all the time is because if you spent all that money to look, and sound "bad", & then found out you wern't , you'd be mad too !!

B: most of them are drunks or degenerates and can't get a real license.

Most of the scooters where I live are ridden by college kids.

Having been born and raised in northern Vermont I would always wave at anyone on two wheels and have the gesture returned 99% of the time.

However, here in Florida that is not the case. I would say I get a return wave about 33% of the time.

I always wave if I see the other bike or scooter in time to wave safely. I am a very sensitive guy though, so if the other person doesn't wave back I usually cry for the next 20 miles or so. Recently the voices have been telling me to chase down the non-wavers and break the fingers on their left hand. I usually don't listen to the voices anymore though, since that time .... nevermind, where's my medication.

I hate the wave. I generally hate most of the people I see riding motorcycles anyway, most of them are clowns in my opinion.

Not us, of course.

I do like the various waving strategies employed by motorcyclists, though...

1. Cool wave - this is the downwardly directed, disaffected flick of the hand, always below the bar with no visual recognition. This is the most common wave utilized by most motorcyclists.

2. Noob wave - a real full handed wave raised high above the handlebar and then immediately blown back by wind resistance, ususally followed by a swerve to the left. You know who you guys are.

3. Biker wave - one finger... you figure it out. It's always better not to wave back with this one... unless you got a full rocker sewn onto your denim riding jacket.

4. Mom and Pop wave - you need a touring bike with a fairing to do this one properly... and of course your old lady on the back. This is just like a regular wave, like the kind you'd give at church or the supermarket, but at 55mph, or whatever the posted speed limit is because these people never go faster than that.

5. Me - ain't waving. I don't know you. I'm using my clutch hand. I have better things to acknowledge. I am your superior... you should know that because I won't wave. Oh crap... they know I saw them waving at me... now I'll feel funny if I don't wave back. I may not like you, but I don't want you on my back for .... oh crap, heres your wave back already.

Oh, great... now a biker wave.

Jeez.

Love the guys scraping their pegs mid corner, nonchalantly taking their hand off their bars to wave while I'm trying to stay focused so I don't end up in the weeds. Makes me feel so incompetent.

I wave at all bikes. It's The Brotherhood, ya know?
Sometimes I don't get a return wave, but they might be too busy or just didn't catch my wave. I know I've been unable to return a wave on occasion.
My experience is, sportbike pilots are more likely to return a wave and cruiser riders won't. I dunno, maybe all the newbie cruiser guys don't know proper biker etiquette.
I occasionally wave at scooters. They rarely wave back.

If they don't well I wasn't gonna wave to that guy anyway.

I waved at a guy on a moped years ago when I lived in Florida. When he waved back he swerved and promptly went into a ditch. It is a good thing that those things are slow.

I went back to help him get back on the road. He was so drunk he passed out when he fell off.

I met him months later in an industrial complex. Seems the reason for him riding a moped was that he had lost his license for life after six DUI's, all involving wrecks! The moped didn't require registration or a license to operate at that time, ya just had to be over 16.

I don't wave to moped riders anymore, someone could get hurt.

I do wave at most rider's. sport riders seem to always wave back in one form or another.I rarely ever see the scoot guys wave as it seem they actually look embarased to!the HD based cruiser boys are like 60/40 in wave or not wave department but the bmw/goldwing types seem to always wave back in the same mom and pop wave lol!

Hey, DJ, I execute the one finger wave method! Should I change my habit?!

Am I inadvertently signaling something I shouldn't be?

I typically wave at all bikes I pass, if the rider of the other cycle is in a position to wave and they do see me wave, but instead turn up their nose, I simply give them the middle finger salute. I hate posers (and scootertrash too) that think that what they ride makes them better or badder than everybody else. Maybe one day one of em will have the nerve to chase me down and debate this action.
