I just bought a 2008 XB12Scg from Iron Valley HD/Buell in Manheim, PA on Tuesday. The transaction went very well and they seem to be a great dealer. Dave set up the suspension to my weight and went over the whole bike for me. I rode it home about 40miles in 39degree weather and was impressed. The handling was great and the power is in every gear, any rpm.

The bad part of this story is that I rode it to work Tuesday night (3rd shift) and it had trouble starting but eventually did. Wednesday morning when I went to leave work, the bike wouldn't start at all. I called Iron Valley and they came to pick they bike up and will deliver it after its ready.

It sure does suck to be stranded the first day you buy a brand new bike.

Wouldn't start, like dead battery? What was the temp outside?

fouled plug. don't rev it up when you start it. if it's on the cool side, let alone 20 effin degrees, my bike will die when i first start it. let the fuel pump cycle, then refire. reving these things up while sitting still and especially cold is the worst thing you can do.

When the Buell is cold, thumb the starter and never, I repeat, NEVER TOUCH THE THROTTLE UNTIL IT IS WARM TO THE TOUCH ON THE FRONT HEAD!!

I have fouled more plugs from being in a hurry than anything else.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm located in Lancaster and ride a XB9R. I also do a good number of track days so if you're interested in finding out how that bike really works sign up for a track day. I ride with NESBA.

Also I do find time to hit First Sundays in Ephrata often and we usually have a good group of sport bike types to go on rides with.

Shoot me an email johnfarrell3 at verizon dot net.

Here is a true, funny story. I bought mine in 05, it was an 04 with 3 miles on it. I was lucky to have a younger salesman who was allowed to take one home over a weekend and liked it a lot. Told me what to expect, we even both had an Honda CBR F3,years ago. They loaded it up in my truck and The Manager asked the sales guy if He had started it, The sales guy said no and when he tried the battery was dead. They unloaded it and told me to hang on and they would charge the batteries and put it new spark plugs., I got it home, road around all day and the next morning went to start it and nothing but sound. like it was flooded, I was mad as hell, I called them up and they said they couldn't pick it up until Monday (Sat). I called a friend and he came over, tried to start it, got some tools out, and when he went to check the plugs, it just came off and cracked at the white ceramic. Tried to find spark plugs all around town, Bought cheap champions, which somebody told me not to do. Has run great, never flooded, no problems.

DAMHIK, but when you park, make sure you don't turn the key to far forward when you lock the forks. This can lead to a low/dead battery by the end of the day when someone finally tells you your back light is on

The dealership delivered the bike today. Hopefully the roads are dry tomorrow so that I can go for a ride. I'll remember to keep my hands off of the throttle while the bike is trying to start. Hopefully the thing doesn't flood everytime I ride to work, which is only a 3 mile ride. I guess these bikes don't like short rides.

I work at the Harley factory in York and the guys at work were giving me all type of crap (joking) all week. Hopefully the bike will start so that I am not the butt of the jokes forever.

Take the long way to work. 3 miles isn't enough for *any* air cooled bike to get up to temp.

I live 12 miles from work, sometimes it takes me an hour and a half to get into work ;) The long way around breakfast is the best commute ever. I usually kill a full tank of gas every day I ride.

Think of an air-cooled engine like the glow plug of a diesel. If it's not at the right temp, it simply won't work right.

The best solution is for you to move farther away from work. Preferably at the end of a really curvy road.

I am extremely happy with my bike. I've been riding every chance I get. Fouling a plug is something that I learned from and will not happen again from something I did wrong. Recently the bike has been starting on the third try which I guess is normal being anywhere from 20 to 50 degrees out. The bike definitely has a mechanical feel to it, which I love, that you don't get from the inline four bikes. I look forward to many problem free miles.

When my bike was new, it had trouble starting in cold weather. As the engine broke in, it got better.

As of right now, the bike has just under 200 miles. I am sure it will get better as I rack on the miles.

I ride to work which is 220km away of mostly straight roads.

At the halfway mark there is a really winding section.

So good that I have been known to turn around and do it again more than once.

The squids just do not get it.

They think this section just ruins their time from place to place.

Congrats on the new bike. Myself just purchased a X1 lighting (2000). After having an R6 I'm loving all this bottom end.
