Major Question. So with the GAS CRUNCH, nice weather in AZ, and respect for any motorcycle rider.........Are we supposed to wave to all the freakin scooters I see roamin around. Help... Enlighten. | ||

Don't know the answer to that. But I always get a hoot out of the scooter that pulls up even with you at the stop light and revs his motor. Especially the ones with custom paint, black with flames and a matching helmet. Hey he/she is enjoying their bike. Works for me. If they wave I will usually wave back. | ||

No. Most of the G-Winger's are arrogant bastards and won't wave back any how! Most scooter riders are scared to take their hand off the bar long enough, but every body else is OK.  | ||

I wave to everybody, even the assholes on their big cruisers that never wave back (i'd say prob 75% of them don't). I figure they are out enjoying 2 wheels and are just as freaked out by the soccer mom driven Yukon that has crossed the dotted line twice. | ||

I wave to any engine powered two wheeled rider 90% of the time. (Sometimes I'm just too busy working the clutch to wave) If they wave back, cool. If they don't it's no big deal as it cost me nothing. | ||

I've noticed when I'm riding out in the country, everyone always waves. When I'm in Houston, they're all too stuck up so I don't bother. But then again, I'd imagine we're all too busy trying to not get run down by the idiots in the 5000lb mommy taxis talking on the cellphones to take a chance on taking a hand off the grips for even an instant. I'm not mad at them. Houston's got some pretty careless drivers. | ||

I wave is possible, if not I nod... Although I have noticed a few things though about the scooter riders: -either they wave back -ignore me -But on occasion they look as though they are deeply moved by the gesture, they look at you in disbelief with a twinkle in their eyes Perhaps motorcyclists around here are not too nice to scooter riders... | ||

Lately, I have gotten a big dose of the cruisers vs. sportbikers attitude. Weird. Possibly cause I have been on my 1125r these days. Don't remember as many cruisers, ie Harley riders, not waving when I was on the XB. It's a little irritating, but if that's all the irritation I receive on a ride, then it's a GREAT day. | ||

They don't wave back because they can't identify a Buell. In other words, they want to size you up before returning a wave. The days of just waving or holding up a fist to anyone on 2 wheels are gone. But it was fun while it lasted. | ||

I just take my hands off the bars and wave my arms wildly like I'm on a roller coaster. It doesn't really matter if I'm passing a scooter or not. I do it to the pedestrians when I'm riding on the sidewalks, too. | ||

Are we supposed to wave to all the freakin scooters... I always wave if she's cute!  Normally I don't, but that mostly because I encounter them in heavy city traffic which tends to focus my attention elsewhere. I'll always return a wave thou. In my experience is seems most scooter riders aren't familiar with the 'wave'. I've gotten a few surprised looks and blank stares, and the occasional big smile. | ||

I know this shouldn't really be an issue, and that anybody so image conscious that they only wave at certain makes or types of bikes is dealing with an eight-year-old's ego identity, but: Up here in northern WI, you encounter over 90% Harleys, the rest being a scattering of sport bikes, tourers, dual-sports and maybe one or two stray Buells per riding season. After a few years of non-acknowledged waves, my ego decided to say screw it and only wave/nod back. Dual sporters up here are the exception, generally practically falling off of their bikes waving in gratitude when they spot my Uly's high front fender. If I travel elsewhere in the state or head up into MI, the waves increase dramatically, regardless of make/type. It seems almost everybody locally (and in high Harley densities around the Black Hills of SD)is on some kind of strange, highly exclusive image quest. I know--it shouldn't matter. Whether they're coming at you or you're overtaking them, they all get passed. | ||

Scooter riders are either already motorcyclists or motorcyclists in training. I wave if for no other reason than to help teach them the correct customs when they move up to something larger. Motorcycle Ambassador and all. Of course, they will all believe the correct way to wave is to throw the shocka.  | ||

I wave at other sportbikes. If a cruiser/scooter/whatever waves at me, I wave back. I don't waste my time with snobs, but I always stop to help another rider if he/she is stranded. | ||

In my experience, which has to do with the Philadelphia area, waving or nodding is ok. Now the cruiser guys that see me suited up with a full face only wave 50% of the time. Sport bike guys wave almost 100% of the time and are always really impressed with the Buell. Now on to the scooter; hard to be taken seriously or get respect. it’s a mode of transportation yes, but I can’t see myself wanting to get on and just go for a ride. The reason why I wave is because I share a passion with the person I’m encountering, there’s no passion in scootering. Unless she’s hot, then I’m all about scooters. | ||

The problem with the "I wait to see if the cruiser is going to wave first" policy is that they are doing the same thing. They believe that sportbike buys are arrogant squids. Motorcycle Ambassador and all. If you wave and they don't wave back, boo on them. If neither of you waves because both believes the other to be a "snob", boo on you both. Ride friendly. | ||

About the only two wheeler that won't get a wave from me are the two-up 14 yr old kids on a worn out scooter with the nose piece broken off... both of them holding a sno-cone, passenger holding a skateboard, both of them in shorts, no shirt, flip flops.... and they are pulling out in front of the fuel tanker that's going 60 past my house. Oh, helmets? those are for p*^$%&^$! I know one day I'm gonna have to scrape those two off the pavement with a shovel. | ||

I typically wave to 2 wheelers. Make, Model and, stature are not an issue to me. and if you really wanna see a big smile, wave to a little kid on a bicycle. They absolutely love it if they are young enough to not be trying to look cool. | ||

I wave to everyone on 2 wheels(if possible), you can't have too much civility.  People here in Tucson seem to wave most of the time. Decent weather helps keep people in a good mood. | ||

I wave to everybody EXCEPT the scooters. I get wave backs from most everyone on cruises, rarely do I get a wave back from someone on a sport bike. the reason I don't wave to anyone on a scooter is because: A: they don't wave to me. B: most of them are drunks or degenerates and can't get a real license. |
