I recently purchased a spare frame puck for my XB9SX to replace one that was scratched from the previous owner. I was curious to know if there are any special steps I should take to remove the old one and how to prepare/clean the frame for proper adhesion of the new one. My new puck did not come with the primer/cleaner that usually comes with the kit, so is there something else that i might be able to use? I just want to be sure that the new puck sticks good so it can do it's job if need be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian | ||

Removal: Pull hard! Cleanup & prep: MEK (methylethylketone) I believe this is what the little buell "prep crayons" contain when you buy a new set of pucks. MEK is sold in the paint dept. of both home depot & lowes. (Message edited by saintly on February 17, 2008) | ||

use dental floss to with a sawing motion to get them off. them follow saintly's steps. i use the same method on cars for years | ||

I lost count of how many I replaced on my Uly. What I do is: 1 - Trace the frame puck with a pencil so you know where it came from 2 - Then just start pulling on it; I find it easiest to pull from bottom up, trying to get my fingers under the puck. 3 - Peel off any bits of puck and foam that remain, clean the puck space with that little brush thing that comes with the pucks 4 - Peel off the sicker thing off the back of the new puck, sick puck on and hold for a minute. Isn't PVC pipe cleaner MEK as well? Laquer thinner would do the same job as well. | ||

I've used brake cleaner (test in a hidden spot, like, under the puck, before you go nuts with it) when the included scrubstick was MIA, and it worked well. I scrubbed with a paper-towel, and final-wiped to remove lint. Getting all those little bits of old adhesive off can be a real pain sometimes. They could probably use that stuff to mount the engine in place, and not have any problems. |
