If your an unmechanical guy like myself and live in the Phoenix AZ area which mechanic do you trust your baby too? Is there one guy in the Phoenix area dealerships that knows the ins and outs of an xb9s? Or if he's not working at a Harley dealership, where is he? Wheres the guy you want to call your family doctor (mechanic)?

Uhmm,

You only have ONE option in my opinion, that being Chosa's HD. I wouldn't step foot in any other HD/Buell dealer. I know a few folks there and they've always been straight up with me. Although I do almost all my own work, there the only ones I'd trust based on my personal experience on my HD's. E'gad(s), lucky you ...... just a few years back, Tucson HD/Buell was the only dealership in Arizona. Now you have a few more to choose from and their all freaking worthless. BTW, I wouldn't let Hacienda HD lick the $wEaT off my BÅlls.

What'z the problem anywho. Hopefully a few others will chime in here that have personal experence with Chosa's and thier Buell.

Thanks Jim, there is no problem with the bike but I wanted to find a guy you could trust if it needed to be tuned or such.

Tell you what, if you end up going to Chosa's tell Matt Michalek, one of the Service Writers that I sent you and WHY I sent you there. I don't know if Dan Kline works on the Buells, but I know he's an execellent mechanic. BTW, you can request only a certain mechanic work on your bike.

Let me know,

I was put off by the customer service at Chosa HD in Mesa when I was shopping for my 9S. When the sales staff shows no interest in selling me a bike, I am not sure I would feel comfortable taking one I bought elsewhere to them for service.

Chandler HD's customer service was much better. I don't have much experience with their service department yet. I plan to take my bike to Chandler for the 1K service though. I was a little concerned when the service writer handed me a check sheet for a Harley and said this is what is included in the service. I plan to take my manual in with the bike and say do what is in here. I did see Buell certifications on the wall for at least one of their mechanics.

Just my thoughts.

Thad,

Every year since Team Elves has been going to Bonneville, I stop by and visit all the Buell dealerships, including Tucson HD/Buell. I go there to hand out a few Team Elves t-shirts to sales, service and the most important the mechanics. I also give them a Nallin Racing brochure (at least Nallin has a nice brochure nowadays). Oops … wait a second, that’s not totally true, I never under any circumstances visit Hacienda HD. If I do happen to drive by Hacienda, I always honk the horn and flip them a bird. Chandler HD did service my Buell years ago when they became the second Buell dealership in the Phoenix metropolitan area. I wasn’t happy with the service at all, plus quite a few of the idiots that worked at Hacienda (service writer and a few mechanics), ended up at Chandler HD. When I was there, they didn’t have a certified Buell mechanic working for them, of course that could be a different story today. BTW, certifications on a wall mean nothing to me. The Buell salesman I spoke with last year while handing out t-shirts didn't have a clue about Buell's or their history, just a salesman. I’ve never met or spoke with anyone in Arizona owning a Buell that is even remotely satisfied with their servicing dealership, other than Chosa’s. Sure would like to know why everyone has to be so fucking money hungry and wormy.

It wasn't price that led me to buy at Chandler HD. It was customer service. At Chosa I stood in the showroom by an XB9S for about 10 minutes before anyone even asked if they could help me. Once I responded yes the person asking proceeded to scurry off mumbling something about finding some one to help me. The sales person who finally showed up walks up and says "what do you want to know". Comes off like I am keeping him from doing something much more important than selling me a bike.

Chandler was the complete opposite. People seemed to be going out of their way to be helpful, the sales manager called my home a few days after I was there to see if I had complaints and if all my questions had been answered.

Hacienda's service was like Chandler. Both dealerships made me feel comfortable being there.

I would not recommend Chosa to anyone who is not already a customer of Chosa. I do hear that they treat their established customers well.

The price I was given at Chosa was lower than what I paid at Chandler.

Sometimes it's not just about *##$% money. It's about attitude.

Yaouza,

Thad, good news, but I gott'a get this straight. So you're telling me the actual Buell SERVICE departments, you know, where they actually work on the Buell's, not the sales department or salesmanship, is great at Chandler and Hacienda?

Oh, BTW I'll have to agree with you on Chosa's NOT WANTING to sell anyone a Buell. They haven't had anyone in sales worth a shit since Cary quit months and months ago. Cary, you out there lurking?

This whole poor dealership thing is exactly WHY I'll never buy another Buell ... at least until they get it fixed.

No. I said their customer service was good. I have no experience with Hacienda's Service Dept. and as I stated above limited experience with Chandler's Service Dept.

Chandler did fix a leaky oil line I had at 60 miles they even washed the bike.

They also adjusted my front pre-load for me as I seem to be missing the correct size wrench. This was done on the spot when I asked about it.

I have stopped in Chosa in Mesa to look at the Buell accessories since I bought my bike. Just doesn't seem like they want customers. I am not likely to give them a shot at bike unless Chandler really screws up.

Arizona:
Good test area,
Bad market area.

Available customers is not the problem in the equation.
I could be wrong on all the above.

Thanks to all that responded, this is exactly why I asked the question, seems like their is no clear answer to a good Buell mechanic in the Phoenix area. I bought my xb9s from Chandler (who happens to have the best sales staff I've come across so far) but I'm not sure of their service people. We had a tough time on the wife's Blast last year after service at Chandler, not sure if it was bike related or service related but it never ran as good as new after they did the first service to it? I've wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but though some of the other AZ Buell riders would have some good insight. Seems I'm still not sure where to take my Lightening when I need to bring it in.

I am currently taking mine to Chandler. I noticed a lack of back pressure, when I let off the throttle the bike doesn't slow as much as it use to. I also think the bike feels lees powerful. I mentioned this when I dropped it off for my 1K service. The service writer said he had a firebolt and noticed the same thing but the 1K service fixed it for him, thought it was the throttle position sensor. It didn't seem to fix it for mine. I am taking it there this morning for a crompression check, if they don't figure it out soon I may have to take Jim_witt's advice and try Chosa. Sure hope their service department is better than their sales department.

Thad,

I haven't a CLUE how Chosa's service department is for BUELL's but I will speak highly of the HD service I've received from them over the last 10 years.

I have borrowed special tools from one of the mechanics there (Dan Klann) on many occasions.
They have always gone out of their way answering questions for me when servicing my own bike (they used to send out cards). I always get a personal phone call after any service on my bike asking if I had any problems. I’ve NEVER had one incident where something screwy was going on like warranty issues, good will stuff, over charging, screwing things up, not doing the work they said they were going to do, like every other dealership had done to me in the past. I recall my fender getting scratched back in 97 on my Fatboy while it was being serviced there. They called and told me the problem, how it happened and fixed it. Didn’t try to hide a fucking thing like all the other clowns would do.

Like I said, they’re fine in my book and I'm sure some have had different experiences with them. I've always been straight up with them and they've retured the favor. In any case, I’d rather try doing the work myself. When I don’t have the time or a specific skill I have them do it.

I beleive Chosa takes the casuale aproch to sales, they let you brose without hoovering over you rather than stalking you as soon as you walk in the door as in the AZ motorsports group who owns 3 HD and many jap bike dealers in Az, every one of those dealer sell bikes just like there numerous car dealers. I recently checked out Chandler Buell sale @ $7999, by the time they were done with all their fees it was over 10 grand! I've purchased 3 HD's from Chosa's and always had the 1st. service done by them and found them to be top shelve. My XB9S will be purchased at Chosa if I can ever get rid of this POS Ducati!
