I was in the Lakeland dealership today and they had an 07 Ss that had a Firebolt fairing on it. Other than that it looked like a stock Ss. In many ways that modification appeals to me. I had been thinking that an XB12R with helibars on it and lower pegs would make the bike more comfortable for the long rides I like to do. But an Ss already has the higher bars and lower pegs. Even better it has a larger fuel capacity. Has anyone done the swap to the R fairing? Is it hard/expensive?

BTW, did that bike belong to anyone on here? It is an 07 with over 10,000 miles on it. I don't remember the price they were asking, but I thought it was kinda high. The high 8's I think.

Expensive is all relative : )
I put a firebolt fairing & Ulysses tail on a TT.

You can use your existing bars with the firebolt fairing. But you need to use a Zero Gravity ST shield. It works quite well.
The only other thing custom, would a be a small plate that converts the ignition switch from horizontal to vertical.

Steve, I believe I have seen posts about your UlyBolt here before. Cool project and very well done from what I could tell.

I did notice the ignition switch, but I could have sworn it was already upright on the XB12Ss. And I did notice the bike at the dealership had a taller windscreen on it, I believe I would want that anyway.

Something for me to keep in mind when the funds finally come available for my next bike.

like i used to tell people when i worked in sales in the high performance automotive business. "If it was cheap and easy everyone would have a hot rod or custom car".

But, thanks to Ebay, Hals, my machining of some components, and a very reasonable powdercoater, I built my Ulybolt for than the cost of a new XB12XT : )

Nope, it's horizontal, just like every other lightning & Ulysses. Now if the individual that built that particular SS used XBR top triple trees, he may have swapped ignition switch to that of a firebolt.

"If it were cheap and easy".... I have found it to be neither.
