Is there a good sounding and good looking muffler out there that once installed I wouldn't have to mess with ecm. I'm after just a bit more sound and maybe better gas mileage if it comes. I'm also looking for mirrors (bar end) that work well with the TT model. I bought the bike new about a week ago and haven't been able to ride it yet.....still winter in Ohio and a lot of salt on the roads. Anyway I'm looking for starter mods that make the bike look and run better.

Odie is a sponsor, and a great guy to work with. This is probably the best bang for the buck going. Can't beat the sound either.
If you come to March Badness, you'll be able to meet the man behind the Special Ops pipe.

If you have not got them yet frame pucks and axle sliders should be your first mods period!

+1 to the Spec Ops
I just bought an XB9S with one. The sound is awesome. You'll need earplugs for long trips though and your neighbors might not like it if you crank her up early in the morning. I don't have a base-line to compare power but I know it's damn quick.

But to be fair check http://www.americansportbike.com for a great comparison of all the popular exhausts for XB models.

Glitch,
I look forward to meeting Odie. I wouldn't have bought my XB if he hadn't posted it here on BadWeb.

Mike,
Congrats on the new ride. Check out the shootout at american sportbike for sure. That'll get it narrowed down for you quickly and then ask a few questions. Better still is find someone with the exhaust you're after and take a listen. I've had the race can and liked it ok. There was a noticable dip in power at 4K rpm on my 9 but the 12 isn't affected in this way. I wound up with a drummer and love it. Very 'mellow' sounding by comparison but still loud. I believe 147db.com has very accurate sound clips of the buell race vs. stock. (As close as you're going to find on the web anyways)
Good luck bud.

IMHO? HID, Polly grip heater cartridges, bar end mirrors, a GPS, and an Aerostitch. Leave everything else stock.

I spent my second year of 9sx ownership undoing many of the mods I did the first year. The mods above (except for the stitch, which I just can't afford) are the keepers.

I saw the title of this and thought "starter mods? Why would anyone modify the starter?"

The thing about mods is that they are contagious and have a habit of snowballing into other projects. There is always the "just one more thing" that I want to do. I always recommend comfort first, performance second, added functionality next, decorative pure last. Your results may vary depending on time, budget, and riding season ;) Welcome to the board, post some pics when you are done with your "starter" mod

+1 on the frame pucks and sliders!!

Dark Horse Moto makes top notch Swingarm and front fork sliders. I have put mine to the test unfortunately and they performed perfectly.

Those mods should be the absolute FIRST thing you do. I was saved a lot of money and grief by having pucks and sliders installed BEFORE I crashed, not after.
