Anyone tried this method of dent removal on their XB headers? Its pretty sucessful on 4 stroke dirt squirts but never heard about it on road headers. I've acquired some dinted 9 headers but don't want to tear then apart in the freezer. | ||

All I can say is --HUH? Freezing takes the dents out of headers?? I store my bike in an unheated garage.. In western PA it gets much colder than my freezer.---No dents have ever been removed from anything. | ||

I've read about taking dents out of dirt bike and sled pipes by heating the spot with a torch and pressurizing the pipe to remove the dent. I've never tried it myself. | ||

I thought the freezing part was in filling it with water and letting the ice push the dent out. Poor man's hydroforming. Then again, I do smoke crack. Often. | ||

Yeah, pretty simple process, you fill the headers with water in the section needing popping (usually a bend), stick it in the chest freeze and check on it every 15 minutes (after its been in there a while and is freezing) till you get the desired results. Leave it too long and it tears apart in some cases. Another way as metioned above is the use of a bungs, air pressure and oxy torch. This method, the pipes are bunged off at all opening and one of the bungs usually has an air fitting. Heat the dent till glowing while gradually raising the air pressure. I usually have to do this after a weekend on the Husky 2 stroke to get he expansion looking reasonable. Never try the freezer on a 2 stroke expanision!!!! | ||

Took a major crease out of my '78 Maico's tank by freezing. When I was done the tank held about .1 gal more than when new! Haaa! I did the same thing to my '76 RM125A and the tank ballooned up like a... balloon. The dent never came out, either. |
