i made my own version of the crossroads bars for my XB9S. go ahead, call me cheap. i couldn't see paying 250 for something i could make in my shop for 10 bucks and an afternoon away from my wife and brats. welded them together at 0 degrees. i used some heavy schedule monel pipe, and i'm pretty sure that they will win against the upper triple clamp. i'll be chopping them near the top to thread in a weakened fastener to act as a breakpoint if gravity gets the better of me. http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r148/Caramv/PHT O0045.jpg http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r148/Caramv/PHT O0044.jpg http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r148/Caramv/PHT O0043.jpg now i have the frustration of how to route the cables and such. i'd like to do it right the first time around. i've seen one pic of an XB with a hole just above the ignition for the clutch cable. is that the best solution? any chaffing issues? i know this is not a new thread, but i got tired of sifting through the archives. pics, advice, tribal knowledge, instructions and/or suggestions please and thank you | ||

I've never welded Monel...How does it weld? Did you have to purge? They look good. Bet few if any have Monel bars, or even know what it is for that matter. | ||

Get R cables for your throttle and clutch, the S cables are now too long and will bind. drilling the hole for the clutch is the best way in my opinion. | ||

I was fine with the S throttle cables. I stitched to the R clutch and R front brake line. + 1 with New12R Drill a hole in the fly screen support, its a really clean set up and it wont bind on anything. I over sized my hole enough to put a grommet on the cable. I figured better safe then sorry. | ||

it welded just like carbon steel. the 2 inch risers are carbon. it was the last piece of monel in the shop. i used stainless rod to make a good weld with the slightly dissimilar metals. yes, the crossroads bars are friggin saaweeet, but i aint "spendy" at all. and they aren't done yet. still gotta sand and paint 'em. i was a little weary of making swiss cheese of my instrument cluster housing. now i see that several have, i'll break out the power tools. so stand back everybody, this could get ugly. Al, from asb was nice enough to send me the instructions. even though i befouled his product on the same forum that it's sales support. sorry Al, but thank you for helping me regardless of my lack of consideration. | ||

Al, is awesome. He once called me up to tell me that the brake-light switch I ordered would not fit my S2, made sure that is what I was ordering it for, and canceled the order for me. When it comes down to him or someone else he will always get my business. Those bars are cool and they'll be the only ones in existence! Anyone (like me) can buy aftermarket bars, not everyone can make their own.  DIY! |
