Howdy - Been a Buell lurker for years. I've been a Triumph rider since the mid 90's. I've currently got a 955 Tiger. Great bike, BUT, thinking about a Uly. I commute 54 miles each way, in Washington DC suburbs, I-66 to be specific. Not unheard of to spend 30-40 minutes to go 3 or 4 miles, in 90+, high humidity stop and go traffic. Tiger does OK in these conditions, as it is liquid cooled. Looking for input from the experts, will the Uly hold up in those conditions, etc. Thanks in advance...

You might want to ask the question over in the Big, Bad & Dirty section of Badweb. Most of the Uly riders live over there.

I know on the Storm Fronts section there is MD-VA-DC and the folks on there have an array of motorcycles and might be able to help out more.

Having lived down around DC for many years I understand what your thinking about. I'd probably say it won't fit the bill for stop and go, high heat and long periods of time.

I have a uly and I had to insulate it from burning my leg and still when it is really hot out and you are stopped it get really hot, I think that I need to wrap the pipes with exhaust wrap and that would be fine, got the insalation from special opps for around 50 dollars and works good but I think maybe water cooled might be better for you but I would think the uly would be good in the heat as long as you use the best oil, and the 08 model is so much better and there is one on ebay right now for sale awesome bike, I would take the uly over the tiger but I am a American product buyer and been riding harleys since 82, also was told by several suspension experts the uly will beat a sport bike in the corners and for 08 the forks are new to and went from 43mm to 47mm while the other buell beside the 1125R all have 43mm forks, I also rode to niagara fall from Boston and back in eighteen hours. I commute a lot on my Uly. I love riding this bike more than any other that I have had. Having stated that, I will go fifty miles out of my way on a ten mile commute to avoid sitting in jambed traffic(it is just that much fun to ride too).

It gets hot sitting on any bike that is not moving. The Uly engine handles the heat pretty well with its fan, but your body will suffer a crotch lead melt down that can spread down your legs that can have you really needing to get off.

Sorry... no offense meant...

HTFU and buy the Ulysses because it will put a grin on your face that your Triumph never will...

These bikes were made to take you where you want to go, at the end of arms on the threshold of being pulled from the sockets.

Take the fire road, and pull a boat behind you. Torque to spare.

'nuff said.
