Hopefully someone can help me out here since I'm pretty sure I'm not treading uncharted water here. I'm looking for some pictures of XB's with either Flat Black wheels or Black/polished wheels. I have a black 03XB9S and I'm trying to decide what scheme to go with. I have powder samples from Grandstand, but an actual picture would greatly help me out.

Thanks in advance!

Awesome, thanks for the pics everyone. There is something about a blacked out bike that get's me going! Nice job lonexb....and typeone, I've seen your bike on here several times, I love the gas mask! Definitely one of the most creative front ends I've seen.

I'm leaning pretty heavily for the total flat black wheels, but I'll wait until someone can convince me to polish the lips. Ah, to bling or not to bling?

Here's a set painted. Dupli-Color Engine Enamel, Low Gloss Black. Its pretty tough paint and they have several levels of gloss.

I was trying to decide if I wanted to go with the Villain Black from Buell so I painted them to see how I liked the look. That was a year ago, and I don't think powder coating is any better. Just have to touch them up a bit when I put on new tires. I can see a little yellow around the lip if I look close. The best part is like Lonexb said, you hardly know they are dirty

Pretty neat looking headlight...Acerbis?

About that satin black wheels...do yours have a slight texture finish? The satin black sample I have has a light texture and I'm not sure how I'd like that on my wheels.

Newbuellertoo- My wheels are the same. I stripped off all of the amber, polished the rims, taped off everything and the sprayed the centers black with some semi-gloss. Turned out well and are semi-easy to maintain. You have to keep up with anything polished.

Thanks Odie, What did you use for stripper? I've been told to use a gel paint stripper or even Gasket remover. Did you remove the tires first or just mask everything? Your wheels are exactly what I want mine to look like. Would love some P.M.'s , just no money for them right now.

Newbuellertoo- I took the tires off and the bearing out as my intent was to powdercoat the wheels. However, after days (literally) of work trying to get the amber off of the wheels with De-Cote from Eastwood, I went with aircraft paint stripper from AutoZone which worker real well. It was dirty, messy work. I had to use small brushes in some places. After tons of prep work I had the lips masked off and went to apply the powder and it wouldn't stick to the centers of the wheels. It stuck to the lips perfectly though. I messed with them another day or two and called it quits and prepped them again and painted the centers. I know powder would've looked better but I'm happy with them. Everything else on the bike that I've powdered turned out great though. If you have more questions just drop me a line.

Evil and friends-
just a quick question that isn't about the wheels. How hard is it to install the R tail on an S (like on evil's)?
P.S. I think I'm gonna do what you did, Odie, but keep the amber at first to see how it looks.

Kevin, I didn't think it was toooo difficult. A little time consuming, though. I did it over the course of a week, a couple hours each night after work. All together it probably took me any where from 8-10 hours or so. The hardest part was figuring out what to do with the electronics, keeping them some what neat and accessible. I remember having to trim some plastic from the undertray near the shock for the loom and goofy stuff like that. But all in all, I wouldn't say it was hard.

P.S. If you plan to do the swap, and are not in a hurry to do it, watch ebay for the more common parts. Fairing, seat, subframe, etc... you could save a bit of money that way.
