The "r" model uses an H3. I just put Silver Stars in mine about a month ago.

I'd be very wary of putting higher wattage bulbs in the firebolt anymore with the issues
we are seeing in the reflectors. If your reflector is degraded (showing black spots) it
will absorb a LOT of heat from that bulb and it could make things worse.

Of course you could do it and never have an issue it is entirely up to the end user, I just wanted
to make sure that people were aware of the reason that 'bolt owners are changing to the HID
systems; to reduce the heat output while increasing the light output whereas the higher
wattage halogen bulbs produce significantly more heat and could melt your reflector.

In one case the stock bulb generated enough heat to cause the reflector to catch fire.

I am not trying to stir up[ hate and discontent here. I'm just trying to keep people from
making a mistake in an effort to save a few dollars that will cost them more in the long run.

I agree. That is one of the things that interested me most was in increasing the light output without increasing the wattage and heat output.

As one of the originators of HID on a Buell, I will way in.

First off SPEND THE MONEY, do not cheap out on a set, you will be sorry. Having a ballast fry out on you on a dark night is not a good thing.

All HID lights are 4300k, anything other than that is accomplished with a coating. Any coating cuts your light output.

As for beam pattern, I have a thread (maybe the HID thread) floating around here that has detailed photos of my beam pattern. A good HID bulb will have the same pattern as a halogen, but with a longer throw.

I think most question people have had are answered in the "other thread"

there are digital ones out now that put out 15% more light have a slim ballest and no igniter, but are expensive I have two I got from aerostich on my uly and now own a 1125R and plan on doing it and now they are coming out with 50 watt lights, now the higher the color temp the less output they have and 6000k is the best but I like the 8000k and want to do 35 watt lows and 50 watt highs if I can get them. extralights.com have the best ones digital and they put out more light and have a water proof demo were they put it in a fish tank with fish.
