Greetings Peeps! Just found this site...awesome! my first post as well... I just bought my first Buell...a 2005 xb9s with 23,000 miles (lots of miles I know) bought it from the original owner who took excellent care of it...had everything done at the dealership, all service records etc..was wondering how many miles I can expect to get out of it before having problems with the engine/tranny? thanks in advance! ps. I LOVE the bike...like a little pit bull..lol...pulls like a freight train and handles like a dream...gotta love the sound of that harley vtwin too! | ||

Normal use with proper care, 100,000 plus? My bike has 16,000 miles. I hope to keep it until it passes the 100,000mi mark. You may have to do a top end. This should help: http://www.buell.com/en_us/news_events/pdf/112406+ Motorrad_article_en.pdf I truly doubt they were easy on it. | ||

I have 41,600 miles out of my 05 XB9SX. Only real problem was the stator going out at around 27,000. Replaced under warranty. | ||

Over 60K on my 03. Looking to be one of the first to hit 100K on an XB. Regular maintenance is all I've done, besides ride. Not been babied at all since break in, these are very strong bikes. Buell Race Kit since the day I bought it. | ||

I did 18k in one year, I think the motor block is quite capable, Looking to crossing over 20k of miles riding this year. Already have the first 586 out of the way. Keep up on your oil, scheduled maint, and she will perform great for you. | ||

20k+ on my 05 9sx. Had a front exhaust bolt shake itself out, which then lead to a sheared header stud before I noticed. Replaced clutch and throttle cables (both needed it). Dropped oil pump to check pinion gear... worn but not in need of immediate replacement. *Finally* replaced spark plugs (after 20k miles). Tires, brake pads, and fluids, worn out grips, and a few burned out light bulbs and loose bolts here and there. Running great still! Burns a little oil and gets a little "tappy" when really hot, but no other issues. I am impressed so far. | ||

2004 XB12R, serial number 3. Hands down, the most reliable motorcycle I've ever owned, and I have owned a lot of Hondas. A little over 40,000 miles on the ticker and still pulls like a train. Doesn't leak a drop of oil anywhere, and the only part that ever went bad was the electric fan. That certainly didn't stop me from riding though. I went over 5000 miles without it, with no apparent ill effects. I have dropped a fairing screw or three here and there from vibration, and my kickstand pivot bolt backed out on its own when the bike was brand new, but judicious use of red loc-tite has solved all that. Love her, and she'll love you back no questions asked. | ||

40k...60k...41.6k..im psyched! definetly put my mind at ease and would love to get 100k out of her. I changed the oil, filter and gear oil yesterday (all mobil one synthetic) next week new brake pads all the way around..just ordered ebc pads ...new low seat next? does it ever stop? lol awesome site with tons of great info here btw, and thanks for all the helpful replies peeps! | ||

Do not use Mobil1 gear oil in the tranny! I went through two stators before I found the errors of my ways. Learn from my mistake. If you did use Mobil1 gear oil, replace asap. I use Formula+ as that's what Buell recommends. | ||

Mobil 1 15w50 or 20w50 will not harm the stator. Mobil 1 Gear oil is problematic as Glitch said. BTW I have 27,000 miles on my 03 XB9S and it runs better than new. | ||

Whew! Used mobile 1 oil filter and mobile 1 syn 15w 50 oil...they were out of the mobile 1 gear oil so ended up using Valvoline 75w 90 syn gear oil instead....is the valvoline ok? | ||

Not sure about the Valvoline, it is not widely used on this board. You can use Mobil 1 15w50 in the motor and primary. | ||

Oh, yeah. The Mobil 1 Gear lube is not recommended for the tranny. I use Mobil 1 V-Twin 20-50 for the tran and Mobil 1 15-50 for the engine. Mind you I'm running Amsoil in it's veins right now. |
