Hi guys,
Picked up a demo '07 XB STT. I'm going to use it for playing at the drags and also on Sand/Dirt drags. I have a couple of hotted up Harelys, but this is my first Buell. I understand that i will need to get a pipe/aircleaner. Not sure on where i go with the fuel management. I understand that i can get the race ECM to fit, but there is a good chance that i will go the Big Bore, Heads setup this coming year at some point. What ECM unit do i use then. I have always used Power Commanders for my Harleys, but from what i have read here- PC are not useable. Is there a unit that i can use now for the pies/aircleaner and will also then work with the BB/Heads later?

Are there any of the Auto-Tune units available to suit.

I'm in Australia also which may limit some of my options.

Merry Xmas and look forward to the replies.

There is not nearly as many hop up items for the Buell as there is for the Harley.

The best place to start is with the Sponsors on this board that specialize in engine modifications.

I would suggest American Sport Bike, especially there exhaust shoot out which list and tests almost all available pipes, Cycle Rama engine specialist, Hal's Performance shop, Richard Nallin, Johnson Engine Technology, and Revolution performance for a start.

Most of the Buell owners on this site seem to be more interested in sport riding and road racing than drag racing, but there are quite a few Buells used in sprinting, and the above mentioned engine shops should be able to help you.

Keep in mind the Buell is already "hopped up" from the get go when compared to stock Harleys.

I +1 what gentleman jon said.

Thanks guys. I understand that there are limitations on what i can get performance wise, but my last 3 Harleys have all been over120hp/120TQ and this Buell came up to me at too good a price to ignore. I may upset some of you, but this bike will be mainly for down the blacktop and on the sand. I dont do the sports ride/track days type of stuff.
Biggest question i have is do i use Race ECM now and then can it be used for future BB setups, or do i spend more money upfront and get an ECM that will be good for the pipe/aircleaner setup now and work with the BB.

Cheers

I wouldn't go with the "Race ECM", since that is actually mapped for the Buell Race Muffler. Use the stock ECM and tuning software, as long as you know what you are doing and have a means to monitor the A/F ratio to tune it properly.(wide band O2 controller or a dyno) The Buell ECM is different from anything else in that it "learns", so there are different procedures to remapping the ECM.
TechnoResearch's Direct Link Race performance (from American Sportbike) or ECMSpy is the only software tools I know of for mapping the ECM.

Or get you hands on the factory programmable race ECM from the racing Department @ Buell (Henry Duga). This you can disable the learning so it only uses the maps. And it also allows you to increase (or decrease) the fueling globally, which comes in handy for highly modified engines.

Mind you if you put a race can on the bottom of that bike, it will not be as durable as the stocker... and if you go through the dirty and bendy with it... you will put dents in it. DAMHIK Might I recommend the Touratech bashplate if you are going to get really aggressive in the outback ;) Nice choice, go ride its summer there.
