By the way why did no one let the new guy in in on the fact that oil threads are a questionable topic....??

Yeah, that seemed kinda like easy pickin's, eh? But, what the heck, the topic has been tabled for a couple of months anyway.

Since I switched to Cheese Whiz in the spray can nobody has asked me about oil any more!

I recommend whatever you're comfortable with as long as it meets or exceeds the oil specs listed in the manual.

I'll tell you a secret . . . in this day and age, once you get past personal preference (yes, I have strong ones) you probably CAN'T buy a "bad" oil.

If you bought the cheapest (assuming for a moment a link between price and quality) oil you can buy and changed it regularly . . . you'd likely ride 100,000 happy miles without problems.

You **may** get some gunk somewhere . . . you may loose a bit of power . . . blah, blah, blah . . but you'll likely not harm your motorcycle.

Gnetleman-Jon, now I don't know if I'd classify KY as an oil. Crisco on the other hand...

Amsoil, motor and gearbox. One oil makes stocking and changing easier.

I recently switched from the original Sport-Trans to Amsoil and the difference is huge in the way the trans shifts. It is now a lot smoother and neutral is much easier to find.

Hear a lot of hype from lots of different companies.
Do like what appears to be an honest attempt to print the facts on the Amsoil site.
Tried it my K100 BMW and the oil turned as black as sin in minutes. I dragged a whole heap of gunk out of an old engine that other oils did not get out.
Two changes later and the oil stayed as clean as a whistle. Still does after 125000 kms.
