John,

I have a XB9SX and I love it (however I had my first down today of any significance.) See my thread about this.

It is fun as hell, however over 100 it does lag a bit. It holds its own UP TO 100. I suspect that the 12 is a bit better, but probably not much at triple digit speeds.

If you are looking for a real screamer, look at the 1125r. That will have all the top end you could possibly want.

I have the XB9SX also.

I have ridden all but the 1125R.

I doubt I would trade it for anything however I would not mind also having a Ulysses.

At lower altitudes the 9 is great. Enough power, and sportier/revvier than the 12.

At 8k feet and above it is pretty weak.

I can still do 115 or so at higher altitudes on mountain roads, just takes a while to get there.

I really like my XB9 on the street or the race track.

The 9 will rev quicker, but every 9 I have raced, I have left in the dust.

My 12 gets up and boogies, and tops out at a little over 140. Believe me, that is fast enough. I checked my top end with a GPS unit and it recorded a top speed of 144.7 Mph.

I backed off before I hit the rev limiter. I have the factory race kit, but otherwise stock, except for where the paint is missing.

I polished it off, so now I'm technically lighter than stock

There are several XB9 bikes that have over 50k miles. Mine has 18k and I've only had a few minor problems. I've ridden both, and the difference between the two bikes is not that big, IMHO.

In the end I think it may be a matter of preference / availability. The 9 is no slouch, and some would say quicker, but not faster than the 12. The 9 is cheaper on insurance too : )

I have one (1) XB9 and zero (0) regrets : )

Though when I sat on a TT, it felt awful nice also. Have not gotten to ride one yet. I suspect I would like the extra space, but miss the razor sharp feeling handling of the 9sx... that kind of "I can split a dime wherever I want" feeling.

I sure notice it on the KLR-250. The bike actually handles pretty well, its under 300 pounds and has a ton of suspension travel. But where I can put the front contact patch of the XB9 on any line I wish (I bet I could hit a 1/4" spot 9 out of 10 times), the KLR front contact patch is lucky to be within 6" of where I thought it would be. The bike will carve the corner nicely and be right where I want it... it's just never quite clear to me where the front tire will actually be in the process.
