Here I was all excited to get my VDSTS kit in and reset my TPS, something not done even to my '05 XB9SX after an open airbox conversion and upgrade to a Race ECM and/or Jardine exhaust. I connect from the laptop's serial port (baud anyone?) and can connect to the initial ecm button fine, however when I goto the active tests to get to the TPS reset, it doesn't connect to that. What's frustrating, is that it did a Once to try the reset, and then see the horizontal graphs, but apparently that didn't take and now the bike is rather unrideable. I'd appreciate any hints on how to get this to behave and get this simple (or not) reset done and past. I've also tried a desktop but to no further avail. I've read on here in places about hardware issued with the cable, how can I determine if that's the case? I've emailed the company's support on Sunday, but haven't gotten a response yet to day. I looked but couldn't decide where this might go in the KV, so if it should be moved then by all means do so.

Thanx all in advance! Namastae!

Daniel

Did you make sure that both the ignition and Run switch are on? I forgot the run switch and I drove myself nuts until I figured it out. If that isn't it double check that the software and drivers are properly installed.

Going from memory right now... But I think after you physically connect the bike you need to go to:
Options- Brand/ECU/etc. This should connect(electronically) to the bike. Then go from there.
Hope this helped...

My experience with this software is the voltage has to up over 12.5V or higher for the system to be recognized and the data connection established.
With the bike sitting there with the ignition and light on will cause the system voltage to drop in a short period if the engine is not running.
I use a battery charger set at a high charge rate while I use the software and I no longer have connection issues.

Since day one I have had problems with the VDSTS as well. It works sometimes and not others. Mine have been mostly software problems.

I cant wait to build my cable for the ecm spy and dump the vdsts and palm I have on ebay.

Good point FX1200 on the data and voltage though.

I think the voltage may be the culprit, it doesn't take long to drain the battery with aftermarket headlights lights installed. I did run into the "Run switch" hiccup at first and that was sure driving me mad till I realized that "duh" moment. I'll try it out at lunch today with it hooked up to the charger, would 30 amps be too much or 10 too few? Thanks for the advice, all!

wow Rocksham, that is pure KISS genius there! way outside of the box! And no worries of too much amperage charging or crossing over.

still no luck even with the fuse pulled and/or the charger hooked up. The cable test said that I have firmware 2.3, is that the correct and current for Buell's? I had read somewhere that there were alot misflashed or labeled wrong but were for Harley's. Any other ideas out there I'm game. I did run down the battery the first time, would that have dumped the computer's memory and cause a connection issue? Any specific baud speed for the serial port? I'm 100+ miles to the nearest dealer, so that's not much of an option.

Thanx again!

I use the ECM Spy, so I am not sure about the specifics of VDSTS. Sorry. Have you heard from the company yet?

I got in touch with one of their engineer's on the phone after giving up on waiting for a return email. Turns out that my firmware is YEARS old, more importantly it's earlier then my '05 and has the sketchy RS232 driver issue with the race ecm. So I'll be sending the cable back to them today with my $25 to get it reflashed to the current firmware. Hopefully that will solve these problems, if not then I'll be looking towards ECM spy!

Thanx again all for the advice and experiences!
