That's why my helmet goes where I go.
Too expensive to leave for some thieving bastard to take.

Humbolt,

I have a couple of used black Extra large hats around here someplace.

What size do you wear?

You can get a brand quality helmet at low prices. This is especially true this time of year with holiday sales and clearance of leftover stock as the 08 models roll out.

What price range are you looking at?

Do a search for helmet lock / buelltroll and see how $1.50 and a trip to wally world would have saved your lid.

+1 on helmet lock from wally world.
i used a drill, 5/16" NC tap, and bolts.
same idea, but a little cleaner looking. all that matters is that it gets the job done

You can get easily get a quality helmet for $200 online. Just do some searching. If you can find some leftover helmets from the year before you will save a ton of cash! You can easily find these online. Look into HJC, Icon, and Scorpion for quality helmets in your price range. There may be others, but those are the brands that I'm aware of that offer helmets in that price range. I did a quick search and found new 06 and 07 helmets for $150-$200 online from all of the brands I mentioned. Now that was a 5 minute search so a little more research may help you out even more.

I strongly advise you to NOT buy a used helmet unless it is hardly used and only a few months old. Remember the foam breaks in over time and contours to the rider's head. If the foam is old and/or well used it could potentially not fit your head all that well. The protection also breaks down inside over time. Plus, you don't know how the helmet was treated and handled by the previous owner unless you're buying it from somebody you actually know. Is your head worth $200? Yeah I thought so...

Check your local HD shop. My parents got me an HJC full face w/ the one button flip face. $225 but it was on sale for $200 including tax. Not too bad I think, I love it.

I probably have a spare medium but it would take at least a week to get there.

If I have to leave my helmet on the bike, I put it over a mirror and cinch the chin strap around the handlebar so you just can't walk off with it.

Oh come on... lets get creative!! Any chance of hardwiring a plug into the helmet, that once you place the helmet on your footpeg and "plug" in the helmet anyone that touches it would be met with a little voltage?

My 2004 XB12R came with a little cable dealie that I loop through the metal buckle on the helmet, and hang from the metal latch on the pillion seat and lock it down.

You could electrify your bike and zap people, sure... and they could sue you when they wet their pants from being shocked unexpectedly.

Remember, this is the land of litigation we live in...

One can always ask why they were touching your helmet that was on Personal Property! Not looking to electrify the whole bike.... just the helmet! : )
