If you want to get the fan to shut off in "stealth mod" just cycle the ignition switch, it will shut it off. I don't recommend it since the fan is running for a reason but if you have to shut it off, it works.

I don't think anyone insinuated the fan would not come on after you shut the bike off. I think people were pointing out that the fan would run less often while riding.

Someone posted that the fan bothers him post-ride when he is trying to "re-center". That being said, I was under the wrong impression and the "fan on while riding" issue makes more sense.

In any case, the fan certainly runs while riding at times and it does not bother me at all. I can't say if it is more or less than when the bike was new as I didn't pay much attention to it then just like I don't pay attention to it now.

The 12R is out of commission due to a broken clutch cable retainer that allowed the clutch cable to contact the header. This in turn caused the clutch cabe housing to melt. No biggie, it's still under warranty.

So I took the tuber out for a spin...When the ride was over, I became slightly alarmed because I didn't hear the after-cooler.... I felt jipped! LOL

I love it when a bunch of us show up at bike night. We make sure to shut all the bikes off at the same time. After Cooler harmonizing at it's very best!

My friend and I will shut our bikes off simultaneously after a club run and take "virtual" (no cash involved) bets on whose would shut up first.

He's got an 06 Uly, and I've got an '06 Ss.

Well I shouldn't have brought up the lady thing. I don't really care what people here think about me but it does make me sad when people look over in disgust at my bike. I am pretty much the complete opposite of most Utahans. I am so proud of it but the nasty looks people shoot me when that fan comes on does sting.

All image associated fan problems aside the fan just bugs me. Either when riding or stopped I don't care. It bugs me. It also annoys me to drive my truck in very hot weather and have its fan come on.I just hate the noise of fans I guess.

I will say that the low setting is tolerable. I can put up with that but man when that high setting kicks in it really does turn into a siren which gets I my nerves real fast.

I don't want a tuber. I LOVE the XB with or without the fan.

BTW I found the rattle in my dash. I took the bike around the block w/o the helmet to see if I can hear it better. It isn't a rattle at all. It is the valvetrain. The helmet just muffles certain aspects of the noise leaving behind a rattle sound. You can't hear it without the ear filter helmet though. Strange.

Sorry to offend with my anti after cooler way of thinking. I didn't realize loud obnoxious noises were such a touchy issue here.

The fans really DO run less as more mileage is accumulated......at least when it goes up in smoke!! But then it just doesn't feel right when you stop and it doesn't come on.

This is almost like bitchin' about having a race car that doesn't have doors. "It was like that when I bought it, but I'm confused, does it need to be that way?"

Are you kidding? That is freaking hilarious. Nobody but you cares about your cooling fan. Trust me. Also, if you are as proud of your XB as you claim, something as petty as a person glancing over at you or your bike wouldn't matter.

Whenever my Buell buddy and I are out riding with the local Rice Pack and pull into the hang-out spot, we always get compliments about the bikes, even about the fans kicking on.
It's different from a Jap. 4 cylinder and people dig it around here.
I've never had anyone look down on it, and if they did, I wouldn't wouldn't lose sleep over it.
Just think of it as one of the many unique experiences of Buell ownership.

The funny thing about PARANOIA is: the more you listen to it, the more it listens to you. Ignore the fan, and it will ignore you.

(Or retitled: The Fan in My Head Isn't Listening to Me Anymore...)

This question keeps running through my head so I will ask it.

Are deteriorating Firebolt headlights just part of the fun of owning a Buell?

"i have a "9 s" and a friend of mine has a "12 r" and i have noticed the "12" fan seems to be running at least 80% of the time were my "9" fan only seems to run about 20% of the time ! does that mean that the "9's" run cooler ? i dunno , but it sure seems that way ."

I have noticed from personal experience (and talking to other Buell owners) that the 9s do seem to run cooler with much less fan action than the 12s. My 05 CityX's fan rarely came on when riding (same for my 06 CityX) but my 04 12's fan is almost always on after a 45min ride (as are most other 12s I have ridden).

Um. Dude. You live on the frickin' sun.

Your fan will never run less regardless of how many miles.

I guess I don't ride my Uly right. I have so much wind noise at 70-90mph and am grinning so hard ripping around the corners that I just don't notice the fan.

My original post was just a comment on Damnut's uninformed generalization.

My fan runs constantly no matter what the ambient temp is, 30's, 40's, doesn't matter.

My Uly is still a great bike, the best I've owned so far, and yes FB, like you, I ride fast, and corner hard, and grin and all of that . . . but I wouldn't put the fan noise on the + side of the ownership experience.

My statement was not uninformed generalization by any means. I ride with a large group of Buells quite often and I not only have experienced it, I also witness it with the folks I ride with.

I think my fan just grenaded so if anyone doesn't want their's I'll be happy to take it off your hands.

Side note does anyone know if this is a warranty thing?

Pay attention to that wireform that holds the clutch cable. I am on my 4th one. Last time the cable housing melted a little. About the fan, its getten cooler now. If it still bothers ya get a RSS, I got one of Robs and the fan only comes on when I shut the bike off. Plus kina reminds me of MT51 & MT52. COOL AIR kinda like CHILLY WET WATER !! WSP

It is.
It's $50 or so for the warranty work.
or
It's $60 or so for a new fan, and you do the work yourself.

I don't mind the fan noise BUT it's been cool and it only comes on after I stop. IT does get people looking though. Only runs for less than a min here, I could see it running longer come summer.

If I'd wanted a bike that did nothing strange I'd got a Honda but I don't care what the people think I just wanta have fun!

34K . . . Do you folks that like the fan noise have it running on high constantly? I wonder if that would make a difference.

Not all of these bikes operate exactly the same. After I had about 10k on mine, I rode with a guy with a brand new Uly. His fan ran less than mine.

I love the bike overall, but could do with a quieter fan.

$50 for the warranty work that kinda defeats the definition of warranty.

I don't really mind the fan. I live in central phoenix and roll my bike right into my apartment with the fan still going. sometimes it's kinda late. no one has said anything yet.

heres the way i see it....the fan it there it was there when i bought it and as long as i hear it when i shut down i know its working. if you don't like the sound of it while your riding get a louder exhaust it works like a charm.

How come no one can make a quiet BATHROOM fan? I mean, damn it man, that one is in a relatively stable environment. It is in a house that doesn't have a shock/spring in the way, doesn't have a super hot vibrating lump inches away, isn't dealing with outside environmental issues like rain, wind, temperature swings etc.

I'm gonna sell this frikken house because I can't even read while I'm taking a crap because of that damn loud fan! Why can't a simple fan be QUIET????

Well, if you're a "loud crapper" like me, you would want a fan to be a little loud so the people in the next room won't hear you splashing around or echoing a fart in the bowl.
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's having to take a dump in someone elses house. If there is no bathroom fan, I'll hold it in or leave the house and take a dump in a side ditch on a country road.
Noisy fans have their advantages.

Where did I say I was going to sell the bike? I just said it seems louder than it needs to be. I have a quiet bathroom fan btw. It makes me happy.
