used only one 25ft. by 2in. roll.

note to self and others...use the 1in. wide roll and get 50ft. keep the rest for next time you wrap them.

there's always next year....

Yeah, nice wrap job!

At the risk of opening a can of worms, has anyone had overheating problems from exhaust wraps? Not planning on doing it, just idle curiosity.

twintour has had his wrapped for some time and he has had no issues with overheating. he just has to reapply the paint every once in awhile

I used the wrap for over two years with no problems, other than the steam when I had to ride in the rain.
You should see the look on cagers faces when you're stopped at a light, with your bike steaming away.

I've wrapped many cars headers to keep them from melting wires near the exhaust or heating up a electrical component.

I personally have never had an overheating condition because of the wrap. As long as it is installed properly no problems should occur. Taken with a grain of salt that you might have to touch up your silicone sealant about once or twice a year or just re-wrap them.

I wouldnt have wrapped mine but so many buellers have them wrapped and I like the look, my leg wasnt burning or any of the other horror stories people have. figure I would take my shot at it.

on a different subject...

my decelleration popping has almost totally dissapeared except for a few muffled glubs now. It wasnt a problem before I wrapped but it was noticable but now its much much quieter.

Anyone else noticed this benifit from the wrap? or did someone switch my stash ?

(btw, I have a xb12s, buell race can, filter and ecm...wrap is about 100 miles old)

What happens is the gases leaving the pipe are hot, wrapping keeps the heat in the pipe, acceleratingly the gases, helping with cylinder fill along the way.
It could in theory make a bike with a carb run lean, good thing we got FI.

so theoretically its like a scavenging system? I mean in a sense that the hot pipe is now insulated, keeping the heated gases in heated and keeping the heat in(rather than letting it cool off to the atmosphere). causing no place else to go but the main exit. if they are excelerated it should become a vaccuum to pull the next exhaust charge out and away... Right?

OK so that means more flow and less back pressure, wont that mean less torque as well? probably not noticable during a ride but its still a dyno-ably noteable amount I'm sure. But then theoretically the muffler would be over filled and hold more exhaust gas with will build up to be the needed back pressure, wait...no...? Theres gotta be a change in HP or torque if all works propperly...

Someone want to explain what does or could happen here, I'm confusing myself.

No less "back pressure" that didn't change.
The exhaust is sped up, NO loss in torque at.all.
Theres gotta be a change in HP or torque if all works propperly...
Change for the better.
No performance loss, performance gain.
By using the wrap, you making everything more efficient.

Only because I've not had any wrap. I'll be doing it again.
The only reason I took it off was because the last time I did it, I didn't paint it, and it disintegrated sooner.
If you're talking about the cracked header, that happened when my bike fell over with no wheels on it. It landed on the header, I had forgotten about that when I found the crack.
Harmless to stainless steel headers, header wrap is.

I havent noticed any LOSS of power, and no real GAIN in power either.

I can use the dyno at work to test this out once and for all for me but I dont like dyno pulls unless I have to on my bike.

anyways...its all about that decell pop for me. I dont have anything done to my airbox besides a filter as well. My modifications might cause different results if your entire setup isnt my dupilcate. Since I have done this on cars before and saw what wrapping the wrong kinda of metal can do, I'm 90% sure that this wont hurt it.

Further research looks like that decell pop is actually accuring in the headers close to exhaust ports where it connects to the head. Its actually caused by cold air coming back into the exhaust when you let off the throttle at high rpm's. WHen you let off it almost makes a vaccuum at very very short intervals depending on how much fUELL is burned, how your fuell map is tuned, and your intake/exhaust system.

at least this is my understanding? and opinion...so flame away, I'm really curious.

Air rushing over the exhaust without the wrap made coming off the expressway a very noisey affair for me I think, it may have made the condition better to suit a pop in the exhaust, with high rpms no throttle input and lots of coolant (air) still flowing. This makes the headers cool too fast (which sometimes is a good thing when your leg is on fire) and promotes that cold air to reach higher in the exhaust. The wrap is designed to really keep the inside on the exhaust undisturbed regardless of the outside evironment (air thats too cold, or even too hot in some cases)

Now with the wrap its made a remarkable difference (for me) in this pop. throttle is a little less jerky around 2000rpm and cruising as well. It's just smoother between 0% throttle and 5% where it used to kick a bit.

I dont notice a real hp/tq.lb difference in my ass tho, and it has been calibrated.

Hey Glitch! what have you noticed on your ride? benefits? any less decell pop? maybe more????
