Hello everybody! My first post here, and of course, its a question : ). Im looking at buying a used 2004 XB12R from my local dealership. It has 3900 miles on it, as well as the aftermarket Buell Race Exhaust. I am not sure if it has the air filter upgraded as well, or the race chip. I noticed that when I took it out for a test ride, it seems to have a small miss of sorts. It was pretty noticeable when I first started on it, but got better the longer I road it. The miss is only noticeable when at say 1-2% throttle, IE just crusing at a constant speed. When I would throttle up, it would pull nice and smoothly, with a slight bit of a hesitation when I would get on the throttle. The dealership said they have had the bike for about 4 months, so I was thinking it might just be some old gas in it. I know the last 2 bikes I had, Ninja 250 and FZ6, ran poorly until I emptied the tanks the first time since they hadnt been ridden for awhile, but never had much of a miss to them. Just the usual throttle hesitation. Could the exhaust be causing it to run like this if it doesnt have the race chip?

Hi! Welcome to the BadWeb.
I have a 05 XB12r (black, of course) with the complete race kit. I don't know what the differences are between the years. Mine runs perfect with race ECM and muffler. But, it requires some careful tuning of the TPS and air/fuel ratios. A good tech at the dealer with the Harley equipment should be able to reset and check these areas before you purchase. How far did you ride it? Maybe try riding it at least 30 minutes. Maybe the plugs are a little fouled up. Bike should not have any miss or hesitation.

I rode it for a good 15-20 miles. Took it down the interstate up to 90mph, through some twisties. Its only really noticeable when at 1-2% throttle input. The hesitation feels very very small. I will deffinately have the dealership take a look at it. I will also be getting an extended 2 year warranty on it, so hopefully if something does go wrong with it, it will be covered.

I see that you are dealing with Bumpus HD. Do they have a Buell tech? Try to get to know the tech working on your bike. If they can put a face with the bike, it helps.

Randomchaos:
There are a number of us Buelligans in this area. I sent you a PM with some more info. The offer is there for you to try my 04' 12r set up like the one you are thinking about for a comparison.

That small miss could be something as simple as a loose terminal on the spark plug.

Give me a shout and we can look things over.

The miss could also be a rubbed through spark plug wire. I had this happen on mine but with that low of miles this is unlikely.

Welcome to the family Randomchaos.

The Buell bug, once it bites is quite infectious. On the good side though you have found the
very best source for information on all things Buell when you found BadWeB.

Hey Firefighter! Well the dealership said it appears to have the racekit on it. If everything goes well, I should have the bike by the end of the week : D

No it's not.

I have only 2.5 Buells with another .75 Buells which will combine to make 3 Buells plus spares... and a year before finances allow the 1125R to be purchased.

I know people with 5 of them... I'm not an addict, I can quit anytime I want to.

The above suggestions are good in other posts about that hesitation. TPS reset, Plugs, wires, I can't think of something that would make you feel that low throttle hesitation. Suspicious about TPS reset. If your dealer will work with you, use that as a "bargaining chip." - have him fix it or if not, say it means you're going to have to commit to a couple hours on a dyno AND likely a different ECM or MAP
