Yeah, you never see any old tubers running around.

You have to buy old ones just to part 'em out to keep yours running.

Even if the rumor is true, they have to make parts available for 7 years.

Okay . . I'll bite. What section of the DOT/FHA/FMVSS requires that?

bmc had a press release saying they wanted to continue to refine their aircooled line while adding the liquid cooled super bike . didn't they?

They ALSO had a press release about a now non-existent dirt bike. Don't believe all you read. That said, as long as the XB keeps selling I feel certain Buell will keep building them. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Court, Is there no industry standard for how long parts should be available after a model is discontinued? Just curious.

When my company discontinues a product we HAVE to maintain CS and spare parts for 5 years after the termination of said product.

I think that (length of parts availability) may be an ISO thing but I've been wrong before.

Buell has a very good record for having a stock of spares for their bikes. No need to stockpile parts.

I wonder how many new tubers could be built out of the spares still in stock?

They were even able to scrounge what they needed to put together another rw750 for Erik a couple of years ago!

...and Harley is ISO...alot like my company who supplies welder parts for 7 years after a production line ends.

Wisconsin state law may be 5, we do 7.

Either way, when production ends, I don't think there will be a problem finding parts. Just have Court find them for you.

I got my XB and there are plenty of sportster parts available.
Harley needs to put the 1125 in the sportster, talk about bad to the bone. That line could go another 50 years.

I might be wrong -- my wife often tells me I am -- but as long as the XBs sell and the engines are made locally by H-D and probably cheaper than the Rotax arrangement, I would think they'd keep them going until they don't meet emissions.

I don't see a water cooled Buell in my future, so I hope they stay around. A street XBRR would be nice.....

To me Buell is powered by HD. But that is just me. Mr.Buell was damn smart to go to Rotax for a problem that only existed in spec sheets and racing grids.

"Mr.Buell was damn smart to go to Rotax for a problem that only existed in spec sheets and racing grids."

4cammer,
I would have to strongly disagree...
Do not get me wrong I absolutely adore my XB, but...
There is always a but; in traffic pinging becomes a MAJOR issue, especially in the summer.
If my XB so much as spends 5-10 minutes in crawling traffic on a warm summer day, it overheats and pings like there is no tomorrow.
So to combat the situation I need to use a 1:1 mix of 101 octane and 91 octane, and even then it still pings to some extent...
and at $8.50/gal 101 octane is not cheap.
And none of the liquid cooled bikes that I have owned or ridden have had pinging problems in traffic situations.
So the 1125 would indeed be a solution to this issue...

Although it does have that vacuum assist slipper clutch... which is cheating
but that is a completely different story.

Those 12s sure do ping a lot.
The only ping I've had in over 56thousand miles was a timing issue. It was a little bit advanced.

My timing is straight up.

I have not had any pinging yet, so for me that is not an issue.

I'm sure the rotax is nice and all that, but I would like to stick to the airheads.

I had my timing checked as well... it was dead on.
It is a lost cause though, I just got used to dealing with it...
At least it does not interfere with trackdays or canyon runs.
