I think they must've known who they were dealing with. They gave him a chair with wheelie bars.

Hey XBullet, glad you're recovering so well!

Don't let anyone else tell you what your limitations are. I was told I'd "never walk again, just get used to the idea" by
a trauma surgeon. Not only am I walking (with a cane) I'm riding again.

Even if you don't get 100% of your old self back that is no reason to slow down. If you need help with ideas for how
to make the accomodations you need to ride, even for an interim thing don't be afraid to contact me.

I have a small machine shop in my garage and I can help modify or manufacture the parts needed to get you back
on two wheels.

Keep the good attitude! and don't listen to the nuts that will try to talk you out of ever riding again. They just don't
get it. Riding is one of life's great passions for most real riders. If you lose your passion you lose yourself.

Anyway, once again-glad to hear that you're doing so well! ATGATT.....It can save your life!

I have every confidence that it'll take a shit load more to slow Brian down.
As far as attitude, I've never seen him not smiling.
Dude's tough, and funny as hell.
Too bad he's so ugly

Diablobrian -- thank you for that. i knew you were out there and i know your reputation, but i had no idea you did it with a cane. I'll defininitely get with you when it gets closer to time. right now i'm completely focused on getting as well as my body will allow me to, but after that, we'll talk about gettin' an 1125 ready to rock. : )

Glitch -- i love you man. : )

Smoke -- lookin' forward to it. saw ya at MB-IV and really enjoyed that rainy Sunday shootin the breeze with you and DJkaplan on the porch at TWO. i'll be back. no worries.

and to everyone else, thank you guys for the well-wishes. we'll ride together soon.

Bullet

Edit: hey Glitch, can we get that d@mn ugly frowny face off the top of this thread? : ) and can we rename it "XBullet Gettin' Back UP!!"

"...and enjoyed that rainy Sunday shootin the breeze with you and DJkaplan on the porch at TWO. i'll be back. no worries."

Yeah, Brian, that was a great Sunday. Smoke and I hung around all day and ate together in the stables at TWO while the rain came down. I didn't leave Suches until well after dark (thanks for the great food, Tim).

When I heard about you going down, that day was what came into my mind first.

See you next year for sure, man.

Thanks, Keith!! that looks much better, don't you think?

update -- the physical therapists will shortly have me hooked up on a "day pass" that will allow me to leave for a day with a certified chaperone (read "my girlfriend"). this means that i will be back on a buell very soon, even if it means takin' a short piggyback ride. we'll have pictures when i do.

SHHHH!!!! don't tell the doctors!

It sounds like your attitude is perfectly aligned for a come back. Like I said, don't let anyone else tell you what is or
isn't possible for you to do. If you're like me their expectations are MUCH lower than your own.

Yeah, I hobble around with a cane, it was a hard fight to get out of the chair, and in subsequent surgeries the discharge
nurses have had hell getting me back into the damned chairs! Even for the trip to the hospital doors.

I am perfectly serious about helping you to adapt your bike to you in any way necessary. You should see the puzzled
looks I get when people realize that there is no shift lever on my bike!

Anyway, give 'em hell and do your exercises! That is absolutely vital at this stage. Too many people try
to shortcut the exercises and their recovery suffers because of it.

I got out of the hospital in 6 weeks when they estimated it would take 6 months to meet the goals they had set.

So stay focused, and you'll get there. congrats on standing up too. I know what a milestone that is!

You da Man!
I've always felt that recovery is 75% mental and you got mental strength in spades. That's awesome.
At the rate you're going you'll be ready for that new bike before they even leave the factory!: D

xbullet - if you're gonna get on the back of a bike while under my supervision, someone had better bring me a fabulous camera to take pictures with!!! Otherwise there's no fun in it for me and no sense in my driving up to check you out for the day!!!

Hey Everyone,
I talked to Xbullet today, he has been real busy and hasn't been able to make it to the computer. He has been taking a few wobbly steps in PT, and hopefully this weekend he will be able to escape on pass for a few hours. I was thinking we could take him down to a bar and bring him back drunk! Kdan if you can get those races on DVD for him that would be great! Unfotunately, Speed is the only channel he doesn't get down there.

No, no need for those. Judgement day and Road Rage taught me what NOT to do a long time ago. sometimes i wish i woulda listened. : )

yes, i took some steps on monday, and i've been takin' more all week. they get less wobbly as i go, but i'm still not quite strong enough to get off the parallel bars.

Clutchless -- i've got the first two on that checklist like you wouldn't believe. but, if i pick up an 1125, it will probably stay bone stock. i can't ride that thing to it's ability. yet. : )

Diablobrian -- i think you and i are a lot alike in that respect. i'm not gonna let a doctor tell me how long i'm gonna take to heal or how far i'm gonna get. only my body and God know how well i can get. and i'm bustin' my butt to find out for myself.
if the bike needs adapting, you will be the first guy i call. thanks for the encouragement and the assistance. it's great to have the BadWeB love from everyone, but it's extra inspiring to hear from someone else who's been in this situation and still rides.

and if you all will excuse me, i have another 30 minutes before my next little class (snooze...) so i'm gonna do some more stretches. the more i stretch, the less i'm sore and the faster i can get well.

Thanks again everyone. more comin' soon.

UPDATE:

the doctor came in this mornin' and told me i didn't have to wear the jewett brace anymore. that makes me happy. : )

I'm doin' those exercises, and startin' next week i'll be gettin' in the pool and the big gym doin' extra-curricular exercises as well.

I am also gonna make an appearance Saturday at Buelltoberfest. Dixiegurl went through all the training to secure a "get out of the hospital for a day" card, so we're headed to the mountains to watch everybody. if all goes well, there will be pics of some kind of hooliganism early next week.

i'm gettin' back up, boys and girls. : )
