Hi. I've been thinking about customizing my 2006 Buell XB9SX CityX a bit and wanted to get a little more info before I make any purchases. Here's a quick list of the items I'm looking for at American Sportsbike: 9074 - XB-S Crossroads Clip-on Style Handlebars 17081 - Buell Traction Handgrips 9001 - Billet Aluminum Brake Lever, XB Series 9002 - Billet Aluminum Clutch Lever 16113 - Aprilia Tuono Mirrors My questions are, do the clip-on handlebars have closed bar-ends, or would I need to get a set of bar ends to close them up (or are the grips closed)? Will the Tuono mirrors and the original mirror mounts work together and fit onto these clip-ons? Also, do the levers have all the mounting hardware required? or do they use some of the OEM hardware to mount? Any other information or ideas you may have for these mods would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I've looked into making mods on a bike, so I'm admittedly a rookie here. Thanks! -Heath |

clip ons have open ends like regular bars. Grips have ends so no need for bar ends. The oem mounts for the mirrors will fit the bars. The mirrors should mount in the stock holes provided they are the same thread. I believe the levers will use the oem hardware. |

if your putting on clip on style handle bars, get a set of bar end mirrors. It will look awesome. |

I just put a set of CRG Lane splitters on my bike (exact same 06 XB9SX) was able to retain the hand guards too. makes the bike look unbelievable. the convex lense take a little bit to get use to but its so worth it. |

Thanks for the quick advice! I was looking at bar end mirrors too, but I'm undecided on if I like it more than having mirrors on the tops of the handlebars. I'd have to sit on a bike that had them on to see if I'd dig it. I was planning on taking the handguards off, but if I can get them to fit with a metal bar end, along with the mirrors and brakes, I'd probably keep them on. I found this picture just a little while ago, and really liked the look.

Be aware of the Crossroads Lowering Triple Clamp conversion. I just recently helped a good friend installing these on his Lightning. My conclusions: They are a bear to install. The reason being, it does NOT allow much room to route the wires and cables. We spent a considerable amount of time correctly routing these and in the end, the clutch cable had to be routed very tightly which created a kink in it. The result is that the clutch now feels a bit heavier due to that kink. The triple clamp and bars themselves are very easy to install. However, it is NOT engineered correctly to compensate for the wires and cables. This is its major failing, which would prevent me from ever installing them if I had a Lightning. That being said, the finished modification looks bad-ass. The finish of the triple clam overlay and the aluminum bars are of good quality. It also accomplishes what it set out to do, give the Lightning a near Firebolt like riding position. However, I think the manufacturer of the Crossroads conversion needs to go back to the drawing board and incorporate relief cuts, notches, holes, etc., to allow the user to properly route the wires and cables to avoid binding and tight spots. Because of this, I would recommend you get the alternative of using lower handlebars AND keeping the OEM bar clamps. This will maintain the needed clearance for the wires and cables yet give your Lightning more than adequate lowered riding position. |
