Well I've only put 370 miles on my new bike, and it acts like it has a fouled spark plug.

I'm going on a ride Saturday morning and wondered if anyone has the Champion Spark plug number?

I don't want to wait on the dealer to try and get the plugs changed. I just want to try and get them from an auto parts store if their available. I was going to try the platinum plugs.

Can anyone help with the standard number? I'm at work and don't have access to the bike or owners manual. My factory service manual is still on order also.

Thanks,
Bob

NGK DPR9EIX-9 Iridium plugs will make fouling a thing of the past : )

We have used these in all our Buells (race & road) since '99 and they have never let us down and absolutley refuse to foul up even with a ham fisted throttle hand when starting the bike.

I wouldn't throw the plugs away just yet, I remember hearing that the new computer and EFI system is capable of un-fouling the plugs.

Thanks Trojan for the plug number. I'll pick up two of those today.

I don't want to risk riding to the 7,000 ft elevation in the mountains and have the loss of power if the original plugs keep fouling.

Thanks,
Bob

Be sure that you let the bike warm up for several minutes before you touch the throttle or the front plug will foul.

This is a well documented phenomenon with the XBs. Be happy that it is almost always the front plug!

+1 for the NGK Iridium DCPR9EIX, great plugs, you wont foul them, period.

Trojan, what do you guys gap your plugs at? I'm currently running .030 gap, my 12 seems to like this gap best.

I pulled the plugs out late last night. It's not a very difficult job to do.

I did find that the front plug was fouled, so much for the '08s being self cleaning.

When I start the bike, I let it warm up for 2 minutes at idle, before using any throttle input. I don't blip the throttle.

I didn't find any local store with the suggested NGK plugs. I'll have to order them and just replace with a new set of stock plugs for now.

Thanks for all the info!

I don't think the "plug cleaner" function is automatic, there is likely a short procedure of key position and kill switch position...not sure...check your owners/service manual for details on the feature and give it a try, I'm curious how well it works if at all.

NGK Iridium DCPR9EIX-9

I think the first plug number is just missing the C?

I read through most of my owners manual and didn't read anything about a procedure to clean a fouled plug. That doesn't mean it's not in there. I'll read through and check for that.

Thanks,

Bob

i dont know the difference between Trojans p/n and mine but DCPR9EIX are the plugs I order through ClubPlug.net for my XB. on my 3rd set of NGKs with Iron Machine race wires. bike seems happy with both.. .

EDIT: if you have an Aprilia or Ducati dealer nearby, they will most likely have the DCPR9EIX in stock. i believe a few of those bikes run the same plug stock.

Another excellent Iridium plug is the Denso IXU 24.

I'd like to tell y'all what works best for me but most people don't believe it's possible or would rather keep buying relatively cheap "standard" type plugs.

The reasons I like Torque Master plugs are: long lasting (current set in for 48k+ miles), self cleaning (spark path fires across center insulator burning contaminants away), provides more spark energy to combustion chamber (360 degree firing, no finger ground electrode shielding spark), 0.120" pre-set gap design works with stock coil.

Note: I'm just a satisfied customer who's interested in new technology and, you know, things that spring from inventive minds. Trust me, these things work. I have them in my 3 Buells.

Thanks for the tip! I"ll give the local shop a call.

Update:

Well I ended up getting the NGK DPR9EIX-9 Iridium plugs from a local large Japanese bike dealer on Friday after work. They said they had the NGK Iridium DCPR9EIX-9 in stock, but didn't. The difference between the two is the "C" letter. It means the hex size is 5/8ths inch, which is the same as the OEM plugs. The one with out the "C" has a 3/4 inch hex. It does fit without a problem, it's just harder to install in the rear cylinder with a deep socket. It's difficult to get the socket into the opening to tighten/remove the plug only. Also the ones I got do not come with the screw on tip, and you do need it to attach your plug wires. The parts guy went out to the shop and got 2 used tips from a machanic for me.

The plugs worked perfect on our Saturday ride into the Kings Canyon/Sequoia parks in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Hopefully fouled plugs are a thing of the past!

Thanks for the help again!
