I just got my lane splitter bar end mirrors from American Sport Bike and was wondering if anyone else with XB9SX has been able to move all the grips and controls inward to allow mounting them to the outside of the bars. I bought the inside mount, but after looking at how small the clamps are I think I will have enough room.

Also can you still retain the hand gaurds with the inside mounting. I got the extra long bolt kit for it, but I guess I have not fully understood the installation, yet. I will be installing them this weekend.

OK, I think you're a little confused or I'm not understanding. Did you get 5571- Bar End Adapter?

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5571.html

The bar end adapter replaces your plastic plugs that the handguards clip on to. The bar end adapter is also what the mirror attaches to(on the outside of the handguard). You want to keep your handguards so you need the long bolt kit you purchased. Those bolts replace the bolts that came with the 5571 bar end adapter thus allowing you to keep the handguards.

If you didn't get the 5571 bar end adapter your long bolts are useless.

Make sense?

Yup I got those bar adapters #5571

I guess what I was thinking is first trying not to use that adapter, and just move the levers and grips all inboard to expose 3/8th to 1/2 inch of bar on the out side. If that would work then I could retain the factory hang gaurd tab and mount the mirrors on the handle bars.

Basically what it comes down to is, can I find a way to not use the adapters I bought thus saving me money.

hey 984gasm how many lines are showin on the tops of your forks? not the preload adj. but the actual fork, i just installed those bars (the regualar size yours look like the big ones) and i had to drop the fork tubes to get them to clear. I was all worried but all the pics i can find show that the fork tube is "on" the second line, so im wondering if mine were higher than normal to begin with since im on the second line now. thanks and sorry for thread jack.

They look good. Now did your throttle side controls have a small plastic nub that lined up with a hole in the bars? I believe it makes it only mount in one location

I have problem, I installed the mirrors with the inside mount kit, but I found that my throttle sleeve is actually out past the bar end by about 1/8inch, so this prevents me from being able to push the inside mount brackets flush to the bar end. if I do It will rub the sleeve which will prevent throttle return (thats another problem that I have, I think Its a burr in a cable because it will not return smoothly on its own every time)

So i am thinking of fileing off that nub to allow me to move the controls inboard enough to get the throttle sleeve past the bar end.

I was still able to get the inside mount to work but i am nervous it has room to wiggle and fall out

anyone seen a similar issue?

Dropnstyle:

I don't have my bike right now, but I believe I have it adjusted to 5 lines. That should depend on your* weight, so moving it down could in turn mess with your handling. Check your owners manual to check that.

Punk:
Yeah, the controls (both side) have nubs so the controls cant rotate (safety). You can either take off, or if I believe correctly GentlemanJon wrapped the handlebar with some electrical tape to obsorb the tab. I totally disassembled the throttle to get to where I needed, but I also installed new grips, so no issue.

Hope this helps.
