I've been wondering if I would like the Firebolt pegs since they are 1" higher (I'm 5'7" so I don't exactly have long legs). I discovered that the passenger pegs are also 1" higher so I swapped them with the rider to try it out for a while before I purchased the Firebolt pegs. You'll lose the spring return (there is a spring and ball to keep them from flopping around) and the "curb feeler" but it is a good way to "try before you buy". | ||

I'd remove the "curb crashers", I mean curb feelers right away. When you're leaned over far, chances are there's a good amount of weight on the inside peg (if you're hanging off a bit), and having the peg feeler hit the ground is going to want to lift the rear wheel off the ground. That's a pretty strong recipe for a wreck. | ||

Before buying Firebolt pegs outright, there's a good chance some people with a Firebolt would gladly swap their pegs for yours to get the 1" longer fit. Re peg grounding: The peg feeler touching ground won't do anything other than signal you're approaching the lean limit because the whole peg is sprung for movement backwards and upwards. The ground will just rotate the peg out of the way until something hard and unsprung touches that would want to unweight the wheel. Methinks it would be better having the peg feeler touch rather than the peg itself because there's a good chance your boot would get swept off the peg in the heat of the moment. | ||

I put a set of Firebolt pegs on my Lightning. I like it. Yes it does feel slightly cramped but I dont mind it. My main reason for doing this was to work with my shift pedal with the GP shift. With the S pegs I couldnt get the shifter low enough for my comfort. The Firebolt pegs make it perfect. Also, if you have a lady friend or wife that likes to ride but her knees get cramped up after a while, slap those lower S pegs on there for her. Thats what I did and she loves it. | ||

Good Thread! I ground about a half an inch off of each peg at Pocono. I guess I should order a set of Firebolt pegs... | ||

I find the Firebolt pegs make my old knees a little achy if I put in a long day (300 miles) but they do have a more sporty feel. I run the Lightning pegs normally as they have all the ground clearance I need (maybe that will change if I ever do a track day). The big advantage of having both sets of pegs is that I keep the Firebolt pegs and a set of needle nose pliers under my seat. I've let my bike fall over twice and both times I broke a footpeg. With the Firebolt pegs under the seat, I've got spares for wherever I'm at the next time the bike falls down. | ||

I still have a pair of Bolt pegs, when the lightning pegs went backorder and I wanted to ride. They are good to have as a spare set. if you like tucking, they are ok. May want to get the traction pegs instead of the stock pegs, or LSL if you are going to make the switch. A little stronger., The stock pegs will snap on you quick. | ||

Also, if you have a lady friend or wife that likes to ride but her knees get cramped up after a while, slap those lower S pegs on there for her. No passengers, she has her own Buell. Plus I've removed the passenger peg brackets as well. Good tip though, I'll bet other will like it. |
