Hi folks glad I found this site. Hope you can help me here.

Got the bug for a bike after 25 years! So I started looking and decided that I’m too old for a Crotch Rocket and hate Cruisers! Leaves a whole lot and I saw the Buell. After a lot of thought and seeing a XB12STT I decided THAT'S for me. AS close to my old dirt bikes as I can get and still ride on the Interstate for short trips (50-100 miles tops) I know it’s a one person bike fine with me don’t ride two up any more, long story lots of road rash. Mostly to work and back, short trip around town and just playing around on.

What I am asking is about bags for it. It looks a lot like the Lighting Long but with more suspension travel, that I need the roads bite here. Would the bags for the XB12Ss fit? I know the number plates would need to go, plan THAT anyway. Or would I better off with the Lighting Long?

Any other thought on the bikes I’d be glad to hear about.

OH Yea anyone in the IN-MI-OH area have any recommendations on a dealer. I’ve been to Toledo HD/Buell and Town & Country up in Cement City and they’d at least talk to me The one in Ft Wayne…forget that they want to sell shirts and acted like even I wasn’t even there.

Birdy

and where's the kick starter at? ;)

with the TT you can simply mount the Ulysses tail section and hard bags (ala steve_mackay's uly-bolt) and you're ready
for anything. There are some clearance issues with doing the same on the SS.

From what I've heard the suspension on the TT is a big step up from the SS. If you have bumpy pavement, or want to play
off the pavement a little the TT is the bike for you.

Congrats on finding the site, and welcome to our madness!

Having never ridden either I say TT.

Great suspension and a slightly more aggressive rake & trail than the long for better twisty road enjoyment.

You can always throw an Ss seat on it and replace the number plates with passenger peg brackets and pegs if you want to carry a passenger.

On edit: If you ride solo only, those number plates look like they'll offer great support for saddle bags.

TT all the way!

Yes, the bags for the SS will fit the TT.
The suspension on the TT over the SS is night and day difference. The bike 'feels' lighter, turns in faster, and is *MUCH* better when the going gets rough. It will also take any of the SS seats as well.

had they had the TT when I was buying my CityX , I would have been there. H&B makes bags and supports for the TT /SS. Pics up on my profile of the brackets with Pelican cases mounted (they never load from home) Go with the TT and ride the hell out of it. Come see us for a fly and ride program if you cant find one locally.

i havn't been on the ss yet but the tt is the closest thing i have seen that is closest to the m2. and for the vertically challenged like i am at times it would suit me better than the uly would. if you see how steve has his set up also you would be quite happy with that.

Birdy, I've been exceptionally happy with AD Farrow (www.adfarrow.com)(prefer the new location though) as a dealer, I'll probably be buying my third bike from them pretty soon.

50-100 miles tops? Ha! Wait till you get one. You'll leave when it's dark and get home when it's dark...

You can't go wrong with either. See which one fits you best and which you get get a better deal on.

Unless you really need the extra suspension travel, I say go with the Ss. Trail is same and rake is within .4 of a degree. So handling difference will be more affected by the higher cg of the TT, imo. I might be a little biased though as I have the Ss. From what I hear TTs aren't moving too well so you might be able to get a better deal on one.

"with the TT you can simply mount the Ulysses tail section and hard bags"

"Simply" is a bit of an understatement (or overstatement, perhaps). If you look at that write up, it's a bit complex, and a lot of cash. Doable, yes, but not so simple as it sounds.

I have a 2006 XB12SS, but the TT is really growing on me (check out the one with the Red Bull graphics in the photos section...NICE). It just looks like a hoot to ride! The only thing I'd do is remove the number plates, but that is just personal preference. I live in Cincinnati, and the Harley dealer in Eastgate (suburb) has a nice inventory, and they are all marked down. All XB12's are $8999 except for the Uly, which is $9999

Pretty sure the Red Bull bike in the photo section is a Uly with an SS tail.

Thanks guys. Your input is very helpful. In fact I talked to the insurance people today and the bank! I don't know if I should buy it now or wait till late winter and try and get a better deal. I was offered a STT for $8999.00 here but they only had the one and no other Buells in stock yet.

Got think about it, I hate to burn up the pay check on a bike that has to sit until spring to ride. It's not the cold BUT snow and ICE can really mess up your afternoon!

If you live in an area where you can't ride during the winter I would wait.

Simply because if you bought it now you'd be camping out in the garage every night.
You'd be curled up next to it in a sleeping bag every night and sitting on a chair starring at it every day.

Save yourself the anguish. Wait. : )

I don't know. You may get a great deal in the winter and those January or February days when the frost breaks and temperatures get up to 40 or 45 are great days for bundling up and heading out to a Burger King in another county . . .

After sitting on them repeatedly, it seems like the TT is the closest thing to my M2, and a very good compromise right in between the Ss, and the Uly. I would put Uly bars on the TT, and change a bunch of other things I'm sure, but I'm leaning toward the TT right now. They do sell a passenger seat kit for the TT now too, just in case you do ever need that capability. I 'think' I would take off those rear number plates right away, but then I haven't seen one without them yet. They might be useful for my 'throw-over' cloth saddlebags.
