Who likes what? Pics? I need bars on my City-X. I have no idea where to begin though. I like my riding position with my stockers. I think I may like a bar with slightly less bend and a bit lower. I feel like now when I go to lean the bike I press down on the bar more than I press forward. I'd like to get behind the bars a bit more. Make sense? Help! Cord | ||

I have and Love the protapers w/ the carmichael bend. The only issue with that is that the are fatter at the clamp, so you have to get a different clamp (I went with the rizoma bar clamps). | ||

I have some ProTaper SE Carmichael bend bars on the way, should have a ride report and pics in a week. The SE bars are 7/8" and fit the stock clamp. I know I'll find out soon, but do the stock barend plugs fit? | ||

nice mirror and stripe one the airbox Percyco. is it a shorty stock mirror? Yep....I just cut down the stock mirror and mounted a small mirror head from a cheapie from Dennis Kirk. I am now using a $5 barend mirror from my local bicycle shop. P | ||

stock end plugs will not fit on the se bars they come with plugs. I just put the honda mini bars on they feel great | ||

Cord, I've got the Pro Tapers on Scarlet, you can take her around the block and see if you like them. Had to bore the end of the bars out with a varibit, and adjusting the throttle cables sucked, but other than that it was pretty easy to install. | ||

Our bars are standard 7/8. If you want Fatbars, you will have to swap out clamps. | ||

Cord- A couple of pics of the ProTaper SE (7/8") Carmichael bend bars on my bike before Paul bought 'em:   This bend is lower, with less sweep, but not as "committed" as Crossroads adapter. I didn't have to fiddle with the throttle cables as much as Paul for some reason - maybe 'cause my bike began life as Low version. Using 7/8" bar makes the swap pretty easy. I'm now using a Magura SX fatbar (1 1/8") with similar bend to the Carmicheal, 'cause I liked that ProTaper so much (and bent to peer pressure for the fatbar bling). The Magura at full width required some creative & half-a$$ed throttle cable routing though. Mark Oregon *Note that ProTaper's Carmicheal bend fits the XB-S top triple fine, but other bends do not. Example is the ProTaper XR Low, which collects dust in the garage right now. The clamp section is too wide for the XB-S, causing interference with the fork tube tops. Alright, here's the deal. I picked up a set up ProTaper Henry/Reed bars, sure enough, they hit the shock tubes due to not sweeping up soon enough. Neither local shop has the ProTaper Carmichael bends in stock. I picked up a set of Renthal Carmichael/Windham bars, these clear the shock tubes by a RCH, not what I call good clearance but they will work. I_THINK_these are the "Ultra Lows", Al? I can't seem them much lower. I also picked up a set of Renthal RC/Alessi bends. These are identical in height to our stockers but are straighter so your hands would moved more forward, not lower. I think these may be more to my liking and they clear the shocks by a mile. So now, I have to make up my mind. Unfortunately, the wife won't let me keep both. LOL If I try one set and don't like it, I don't think they wil take them back after being clamped. Advice? | ||

Well I had my 10 year old son in the garage with me handing me bars and test fitting. He said "Dad, those one's are cool, the other ones are too tall.". Well the kid is wise beyond his ten years, I LOVE THE BARS! I ended up following his advice and installed the Renthal Carmichael/Windham bars. Install was a breeze.I ended up cutting 7/8 of an inch off the ends. DO NOT CUT ANYMORE than that. 3/4 should be the max. I had a bit of a tough time getting everything on with 7/8" cut off. I got everything done, my only dislike is the position of my clutch lever. It sits on the radius just a tad and does't pull perfectly parallel anymore. It still feels good and works fine, just sits odd. This wouldn't have been an issue if I had cut 1/4" less. Well the shake down run was GREAT! LOVE the bars. In my initial post I mentioned wanting to feel more behind the bars, well, this is it. I am definitely behind the bars and when I press forward, it is more of a forward motion than down. The bike feels more responsive to my input. I can hold lines easier. I feel more in control. I am still in a comfortable riding position too. Time will tell but my initial feelings are great! Here are a couple of comparo pics, Carmichael's vs. stock. I am not going to cut them, but I am going to mount barend mirrors on (as opposed to in) the ends to make up for 1/2"-3/4" that I would have trimmed them. The pad had to go, but I like the crossbar.   | ||

Hey guys. Ive been thinking about getting a set of mx bars for my 07 xb12 It seems the Carmichael's bar is the going fit. I was just wondering how they felt over longer rides. And how much should you cut off the ends. Im running one bar end mirror internaly on the left hand on my stockers. Thanks much! | ||

Carmicheal/Windham Renthals fit, BARELY. ProTaper Carmichael's are the same. Close to shock bodies but they clear. As I said they are much lower and feel great. The riding position is not changed enough to be uncomfortable, this is VERY important to me. The ProTapers are 802mm wide, Renthals are 800mm. Like I said, I took a bit too much off. Look at the pic on the top of this thread, you can see where the clutch lever sits and you can also see why 7/8" is ALMOST too much to take off. I'd cut at least half an inch for sure. You can always cut more later. EZ install. LOOSEN the housing for the throttle controls, remove everything else, then remove the bar clamp and just slide the bars up and out of the throttle cable housing. EZ as pie. Just check for WOT when done. I was able to save my left grip too. | ||

Well, Disturbed seemed to have a much easier time then I did. First, my left grip was completely glued on. Once that was removed, off came the left switches and the brake lever mount. Then I separated the throttle control housing and removed the right grip. Then loosed the clutch mount and removed the bar clamp, and slide the bar out of the clutch mount. Next, I mocked up the new bar and figured out where the holes needed to go that secure the switches. After the drill press, it was just installing everything in reverse order it was removed. I'll get some pics tomorrow, still have to glue on the grip and install the mirrors that arrived today. | ||

Holes for the switches? Not necessary my friend. Don't make work for yourself. I got my left grip off smoothly by inserting a small flathead screwdriver in slowly with about a 25* angle so it would angle towards the bars and not the grip. Worked it around and around and with some patience, it finally came loose. Don't glue the left grip, hit it with some hairspray. Lubes it for ez install, dries sticky, old BMX trick. Not a nightmare to get off later either. The clutch mount lever should have slipped off after you removed the clutch cable. HTH, Cord | ||

Ah, I didn't remove the clutch cable. More then 0ne way to skin a cat... I need holes for my switches, at least for the throttle. There is no crimping power, and the nub in the hole is the only thing that keeps them from rotating. Did you use glue or a thin strip of rubber, or are yours made different? Oh, I finally got a ride this morning after work, and I LOVE the new bars, and the ebay barend mirrors ($35+$10 shipping)work better then I expected. | ||

The RM lows, like the Henry/Reed do not fit, they hit the shocks. On the switches, mine don't move at, don't know what to tell ya. Maybe wrap your bars with electrical tape 2-3 times to give it some bite. They don't need to be superman tight. | ||

Try the Pro-Taper SE Kawasaki mini-bike bars. Except for slightly less pull back the bends are identical to stock. I had them on my recently totaled City-X. Very nice. |
