As the title says, I am testing the waters... I'd like to hear from folks who have done this... There are a few parts that are unsalvageable and some parts I would like to keep for my next bike...

Frame/swingarm have scratches, clutch and front brake levers a no go, as with the front turn signals, might keep the body work for my next bike as well as my aftermarket pegs, right mirror is in a ditch somewhere, wheels have some scratches...

Anyone have any idea what I can get out of this thing? Just trying to figure out if selling it as-is, keeping it, or parting it out makes more sense...

I've looked into this and priced some things out for a tube frame partout. The biggest ticket item is the engine with or without a clear title to it, sometimes the title stays with the frame, sometimes with the engine. More common crash-replacement parts and more common upgrade parts sell quicker, less common parts sell slower. Swingarms tend to sell slower unless you find someone who broke their's with a disk lock (sorry, but it's a good example). Wheels sometimes sell quick, other times they seem to stay available for months. Best you can do is to start watching the classifieds here and start a running list of what's posted, how fast it sells, and what it goes for.

I think I got up to maybe $1,500 for the tube frame parts that would have sold in a reasonable time frame leaving the engine, frame, and wiring harness behind. Bike is still intact and looking like it will probably stay that way.

Put the engine up first, see if it goes, keep the rest for spares and quick sale item if you get in a financial bind. Otherwise just dump the complete bike with a clean title for whatever you can get for it as-is, count your blessings, and don't look back. You'll probably end up with the same net amount in either case. A crashed bike with a good engine seems to me to be worth about the same as just a lone good engine without all the extra stuff attached to it.

Probably no real help in answering your question, but I had a few minutes so thought I'd throw out an opinion, hope there's something worthwhile in this post for you.

No, actually this is great info... I keep thinking about this and can't help but worry that I will end up sitting on a ton of parts forever and never be able to get rid of them... Might be better to just keep the damn thing, make it how I want it, and ride it till it dies... then sell it for nothing... I dunno...

Any other thoughts?

I think the market for Buell parts is very strong. I know several people that have parted out bikes out for one reason or another and they have done very well with it. I don't think you will have any issues moving the parts.

Here is a question.......If a bike is totaled and has a salvage title....Can it be re insured? I know Ohio requires an inspection by the Highway Patrol before it can be relicensed.

The very first question I asked... Yes, it can be insured... After talking with the girl today, the inspection process is a joke... They just make sure the lights and whatnot work and that there are no stolen parts on it... Going from full coverage @ $341/yr to liability @ $104/yr is what they quoted me...

Onesickpsycho- drop Blacksunshine a line over on the 3%er's thread in the Storm Fronts page. He parted out his Xb9S last year and did pretty well.

If I may ask....What insurance provider did you have? What was wrong with it, that they totaled it?

Onesickpsycho- your PM's should go to whatever email address you have set-up in your profile. You might want to check if that address is the right one.
